I hate this argument. It is either the right thing to do or it's wrong. We should not be engaging in a technological arms race with are own government.

This is also my main concern. Some council worker looking at your internet history to see if you're tried to get out of a parking ticket or something.

It's all your fault Damien. If you stopped parking your car illegally the government wouldn't need these powers. Stop being so selfish!

The Government probably thinks that traffic offences are the start of a slippery-slope to becoming an Evil Paedo-Terrorist...

Prime Minister David Cameron said today he hoped the House of Commons could come to an agreement on what should be done about the Communications Data Bill, following fresh calls to revive the so-called Snoopers’ Charter.

It's going to happen. Every time we manage someone manages to stop the bill it comes back again. At least we got a few years last time, now it's a few weeks. We could vote both parties out of power and install a Lib Dem Government and it would come back. People say no, Government brings it back. Can't allow the terrorists or peados to win can we?

“There is a problem when at the moment, 95 percent of serious crimes involve the use of communications data,” Cameron said.

Get a warrant and query Google, the ISP, or whoever else.

Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily Guardian
Does anyone really doubt that something similar is happening in the UK?

Nope, their fixed line and cell base interception capability is probably more robust here in the UK than it is at back in the good ol' US of A.

Senior politicians from across the political divide have united to call for UK security services to be given greater internet monitoring powers.
Speculation is mounting in Westminster that to avoid complicated votes in parliament, measures will be brought forward by Home Secretary Theresa May that are not presented in a formal bill, but instead use other means of achieving the same ends.
The Communications Data Bill would have given police and security services access, without a warrant, to details of all online communication in the UK - such as the time, duration, originator and recipient, and the location of the device from which it was made.
|
What's the point of fighting it? Whoever we vote in will implement it and if the Government can't pass it in Parliament they'll find other ways to do it.
All our web activity, phone calls, e-mails and social media contacts available to the police and security services without a warrant. Unbelievable that this will be allowed to happen. Even the Prism stuff limited it to the NSA.

Re: Government to monitor Internet Use
It is worrying that they are avoiding the formal bill route and trying to sneak it in without any objections. Obama did something similar.
Changing my email address's away from gmail has felt quite refreshing to be honest. Phone and computer use a VPN to collect them now, so my mails and browsing details shouldn't be slurped up casually by the government Next to look at is VOIP via VPN!

Damien, you just don't understand. It is absolutely necessary that the government monitors 63,000,000 people because some of them might be terrorists.
