Some general questions about wireless broadband

first of all good evening everybody!

im getting a new laptop for my uni studys and its got a wireless card built in,what i am wanting to do though is have my virgin media broadband go wireless to my laptop without needing to be connected to a router or a pc,is it possible to do this?

also looking through the forum it seems theres a lot of good reviews on the linksys routers, can anybody reccomend me one to buy as im rubbish at networking!

The VM modem would need to be cable connected to a wireless router and then your laptop would connect wirelessly to the router itself.
