That sounds perilously close to a claim that "religion causes wars" ....
Iraq was the result of a good old fashioned Texan family feud combined with the ascendency of neo-Con nutcases who believed in their ability to forge Western-style democracy at gunpoint. Blair was along for the ride because he has messianic tendencies, but in his view, he was the messiah.

Absolutely, it was a feeble attempt at appealing to UKIP, BNP, EDL etc supporters. About as successful as each of Osborne's "just an ordinary bloke" stunts.

Proof?
I doubt that saying we are a Christian country isn't going to make people suddenly decide to vote for Cameron.
The percentage of Christianity in the UK is falling each year. 71% of the UK were Christian in a 2001 survey compared with 59.3 in 2011. Muslims have gone up a small percentage but the biggest increase appears to be 'No religion'.
Can't always trust surveys due to the way questions are asked, but I expect these to be pretty accurate. Over another 20 to 40 years or so, we will be in a place where no religion has the largest percentage, followed by Islam and Christianity rolling in 3rd. Will someone then say we are an Atheist country?

Re: Is Britain a Christian country?
I wouldn't call that proof, just an opinion. Personally I don't agree with Farage's opinion on this.

Farage stated
Quote:
“What Cameron is doing once again was really mimicking what Ukip have been saying for years, in an attempt to win back the voters that he has lost, but those voters are not going to go back to Mr Cameron.”
He added: “We have been saying for years that we should be more muscular in our defence of Judeo Christian culture, and after all we have a Christian constitution. The Church of England is the established church of this country.”
The leader of UKIP has regularly promoted UKIP as a party that stands up for “British Christian values.”

I think his "opinion" might carry more weight than yours in this matter...

Re: Is Britain a Christian country?
That'll teach me not to read everything!
So there is at least a chance it was based on UKIP's Christian stance. Still don't think it will make people change their mind and vote for Cameron instead of UKIP.

Clegg calls for the disestablishment of the Church of England.

Re: Is Britain a Christian country?
Calling for the separation of religion and politics, probably the first good thing Clegg has ever said. Not enough to win him back many votes though :P
