Bishops in the House of Lords = no-no.
Any other preferential treatment stripped from the statute books, beyond that couldn't care less. Preferential treatment being stripped in full would result in a practically secular state, albeit one with ceremonial establishment. That'd be considered 'ambiguous' perhaps but would be fine.

It's not as Christian as it used to be.

Ironic that the USA which is still considered one of the most religious countries with a high church attendance has a secular government and education system.
Therefore I wonder why christians in particular are so stuck on keeping a discriminatory religious privilege and bias in state and education.

I blame the Normans, or the Vikings, or the Saxons, or the Romans - coming over here, bringing their strange ways....

Hugh, you do realise that is was the romans invaded the uk and forced it to become a christian country, before that we were all pagan.
did you know christ himself was a jew and was born is israel, and the prophet of god is a jew and wrote the ten commandments and the holy bible for all jews to follow.
and if anybody disagrees with this then get a history book.

Re: Is Britain a Christian country?
Sort of moses was a slave in egypt. he asked the king if he was allowed to leave but he was refused, so he fled with his followers the israelites to set up the promised land a small part of persia, witch is now known as israel. During the escape he went into the mountins and he was given 2 stone tablets witch had the 10 commandments writen on by god. so he is jewish of egyption decent, this is why the bible only goes back 6000 years its when the jewish realigion was born, and christianity only goes back 2000 years is when jesus was born.

1. The Roman invaders were as pagan as anyone else. Britain was first evangelised mostly by Celtic missionaries and the Roman influence on the faith arrived later - well after Imperial Rome had retreated.
2. Moses was not a Jew. He was an Israelite of the tribe of Levi. "Jew" is a label that arose many centuries later and does not mean precisely the same thing.
3. You really should get yourself one of those history books.

The nation of Israel remained ethnically and geographically distinct, and despite being raised in the palace Moses was known to have been an Israelite and was nursed by his natural mother, despite being adopted by an Egyptian princess.
