Question Belkin Router log utility???

Hello, does anyone know of a utility that will query my Belkin router & show me the log on it in a more readable format etc?

I tried Googling but only came up with a Linux one. I'm on XP.

Thankyou.

Is this the kind of thing you're after? http://belkin-extract.sourceforge.net/ According to the blurb "It will run on any platfom that Java is supports. This will log into your Belkin Router and downloads your security log. It automatically converts your log into a simple comma-delimited text format (which can be read by Zone Alarm and other firewall software)."

Bit puzzled, though, since my Belkin router's Security log page has a Save button which generates a text file in any case. What's more to the point is that there is so little detail available in the first place - it appears to only handle about 30 firewall log entries at a time ... Probably why it's so cheap

[Edit] In fact, I see the Belkin forum at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/belkin has no end of complaints about the general uselessness of the security log! Probably not worth bothering with, in other words [/edit]

That's the one I found too, it looked like a unix/linux program to me.

How would I run a .jar file under windows though?

To run the software, just download the .jar file that is in the bin directory on the URL immediately above.
Then, type java -jar belkin-1.0.jar belkin.Main .

Re: Belkin Router log utility???

it should work in windows, java is mean to be portable.

try typing java in a CMD window, if java is installed properly it should be recognised.

i don't have a belkin router to test this program though.

Well, the command line java -jar belkin-1.0.jar belkin.Main works OK, but the s/w is clearly bound to a very specific Belkin router. Going back to the website, I see it does say the F5230 ... don't know which that one is, but mine's an F5D7230 wireless model, which would account for the fact that the program returns "Ack! Cannot connect to the router's web interface!". Ho hum. Shame the program also echoes the administrator password back to you in clear text too ... tut!

But I come back to my earlier point - there's not enough of a security log in these consumer Belkins to make the effort worthwhile in the first place?
