Might not, you mean.
Oh, sorry. You were probably just speculating

Isn't it such a shame that VM chooses not to be open like Mr Durnford chooses to be regarding answering people's enquiries about Smallworld which is why we are always speculating about everything concerning VM. Mr Durnford's openness and helpfulness is a credit to himself and how he chooses to run his company and this openness makes me sometimes which I could have Smallworld instead of VM even though Smallworld seems not to be currently offering any on demand services.

Well said.

If, as he speculates, Virgin are being held back at the moment too then me might finally see the missing ITV HD channels in 2012.
It's a good thing this thread thrives on speculation

I was thinking the same, let's hope that this is the case.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 2.
Virgin Media to give Local TV an ''600'' channel number.
a516 Blog says:
Virgin have told ofcom they will do the following with Local TV:
-Virgin Media, has assumed that local TV services should be in the news genre.
-The company "considers it would be preferable to deliver a combined linear, Video on Demand (VOD) and text service as an application via internet protocol on its TiVo platform".
-The application would be reserved a position on the first page of the TiVo applications page.
-A link to the local TV services on the TiVo platform would be placed "close to the BBC News Channel" on the Virgin Media EPG.
Info thanks to a516 Blog.

I agree den, although probably vey hard to find any evidence in writing as OFCOM or the CC might be all over them.
But it probably went like this in return for some sort of exclusivity then sky would offer a certain amount of cash that ITV so desperately at that time needed.
When you have the actual boss of smallworld cable in effect saying he cannot get ITV2 HD on his cable selection then you have to suspect something.

Maybe. If there was or wasn't, what is obvious is that Skys pricing structure allows them to pay much more than cable for these and other channels.

Nothing to do with pricing structure Lex but more to do with Skys bottomless pockets.

I disagree. Sky charge £10+ for HD. They can legitimately pay more for HD just because they specifically charge their customers for it.

I suspect that Sky have contrived it so that channels are offered, but at an unrealistic price. That way they get exclusivity through the back door or rip third parties off (in the case of their own channels.)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 2.
Both Sky and ITV have been open about the fact that they have an exclusive deal for satellite. Anything else is speculation.

That makes no sense. ITV would do what makes them the most money.

But this is point, Sky would do an uneconomic deal with ITV to keep the channels off the other platforms.

And its no different then them keeping Sky Atlantic and Sky Sports HD 3 and 4 in that they are using their monopolistic position and undue influence to control the pricing and availability of content through their own insidious means.

Den unless I'm mistaken VM customers have access to around 17 Sky High Definition channels the exception being Sky Sports 3 and 4 HD which I've already stated I believe should be included for VM Sky Sports subscribers , the remaining two Sky Sports F1 HD and Sky Atlantic HD I see no problem with Sky keeping them exclusive after all every platform is entitled to some sort of USP and they've invested significantly with these two. VM now also offer Sky Anytime content across their platform.
