retaining mobile phone number

Last Friday I contacted virgin mobile to request transfer of my old mobile number to my new virgin mobile phone. I supplied the PAC code and the relevent numbers.
I was instructed to turn my mobiles off at midnight Sunday and leave them off for 24hours so that the switch could take place on Monday,
I ensured the phones were turned off well before midnight on Sunday and left them off all day yesterday. When I turned on again this morning nothing had happened.
Have tried 3 times to phone them on 789 but I see from the website there are technical problems.
What happens now ? Do I need to rearrange an exchange day ?

Re: retaining mobile phone number

Give it time, they say 24 hours (that's weekdays) but sometimes it can take 48 hours or even longer over the weekend..

Re: retaining mobile phone number

I understand things may not always take a precise amount of time. The person I spoke to confirmed the change would take place on Monday and the phone should be switched off in that period.
This morning of course the relevant 24 hours having finished I turned on, in view of what you say I hope this has not ruined the whole procedure.
I have now turned off again but how will I know whwn it has been done without switching the phone back on ?

I think it may now have been done. Just checked out my virgin mobile account and it is now showing the number I wanted to bring with me. Will leave it another half hour before I switch the phone back on just in case it is still being processed in some way.
