Most of the horror stories you'll see in the media are based on a joke of a study from 2009 which has been debunked by just about everyone.
UK ecig industry is of a high standard and most websites require an age verification before being allowed to enter. Also both the industry and users have for a long time called for proper intelligent regulation such as minimum standards of quality in liquids and equipment and an age restriction. Some of you should also be aware nicotine is a naturally occurring chemical and is present in many things that have nothing to do with e cigs or tobacco.
No one is saying there shouldn't be regulation or responsibility in the industry. Yes you can buy cheap low quality containing god knows what liquid but it is an extremely minute minority that would do that. Longterm studies by their definition take time to reach a conclusion but there are plenty of scientists, doctors and others saying already that ecigs are considerably healthier then tobacco. Personally the one thing I hated about smoking was the impact on others around me, ecigs meant I no longer had a negative impact on anyone and could still get what I want from it. We were asked by non smokers to stop being selfish and think of those round us well we did and now there are calls to ban those how about leaving us alone and finding your next activity to crucify.

Good post and informative. As a user of e-cigs 2 words for you Arthur and they are up and yours.
Just to add to Rizzy's post the base liquid in e-cigs is also used in nebuliser's so are we going to ban those as well?
Obviously there are a lot of people who have no idea what so ever what goes into e-liquid and the ONLY thing that isn't classed as safe is the nicotine.
What is safer a smoker smoking 20 a day and people around them breathing in second hand smoke or an e-cig user and people around them breathing in fresh air?
While we're at it let's ban alcohol, any food stuffs that are not 100% fat/sugar free, where do we stop before everything had been taken away from us because it gives us some pleasure.

Re: Best idea going - call to ban e-cigarettes indoors
Why not let the landlord or building owner decide whether to ban them?

Re: Best idea going - call to ban e-cigarettes indoors
This debate such as it is is being framed by big tobacco and big pharmaceutical both of whom have lost a lot of money as a result of ecigs you also have the government that has lost a big chunk of revenue. Anything coming out of america from the likes of the heart and lung groups and the fda is basically biased and that's also well known. This is something that needs intelligent debate and sensible regulation but the current atmosphere on this makes that highly unlikely. Also why would landlords ban them they don't do any damage or discolour anything.

That's not the issue. I'm suggesting that landlords and building owners being given the right to decide.

Spit and sawdust dives by the sound of it.
IF these e-cigs are polluting the local air then some control will have to be applied for the greater good.

I'd much rather smell farts and vomit than contract lung cancer, however as I avoid dodgy drinking pits as a general rule I get to avoid both which is awesome.
The smoking ban in work places is brilliant. Banning e-cigs in them is more debatable.

Re: Best idea going - call to ban e-cigarettes indoors
Sadly in america the official heart and !ung associations Hugh are less worried about healthy living and more interested in serving the agenda of their backers big pharmaceutical a group losing out to ecigs. It's no secret that many organisations in the US are full of people they are meant to be monitoring and controlling making them pretty useless. I'm not saying there isn't a debate to be had here because there is but the tone at the minute is full of scaremongering and ignorance and little to no facts. As lovely as it would be to just get rid of smoking it isn't going to happen so instead of only following the "give it up" route we should also be following a health damage reduction. As for polluting the air not a major issue with vaping as it dissipates very quickly although some vapours go towards the daft end of vaper creation.

I say two things. One l have not said a bad thing about people who want to smkoe the e cigarettes. Thats down to them.
And yes, bring back smoking in pubs, it will bring back the old boozer, and stop pubs shutting down. And stop this ritzy type wine bars that are growing.

It will also bring back an increase in coronary heart disease and lung cancer from passive smoking...
You seem to want to ban e-cigs inside, but allow smoking - an unusual viewpoint.
