Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
I did ring up in the end and spoke to retentions, just to make sure nothing else would change contract wise if I got the superhuib. I explained that I had a note on myvirginmedia saying I would get a free superhub and speed increase. They are sending the superhub out with no contract extension and no price change. It was the same department I spoke to a couple of months ago who said it would invoke a new 12 month contract; I guess it depends on who you speak to. The person said I will automatically get a new contract in the post, but to phone up and ask for her if it extended the contract at all, and she would sort it out.

You appear to be agreeing with the VM Marketing Department.

My estimate is "between September 2013 and December 2013." which is neither mid-2013 or "another 6 months". And they still haven't completed things they promised at the beginning of last year...

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
qas, you are correct, and it is a valid point - but that wasn't the point that was being made (context is all).

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
My tier has changed to 100meg and I've now got the "give me my superhub" link in MyVM. Clicking that just opens a page that says my modem is fine (VMG300) but if I want wireless speeds of up to 120meg then I can have a free hub. Which seems a bit hopeful. I do have a superhub sitting unloved in a dark corner of the loft already, precisely because it couldnt provide anywhere near 10meg speeds....
I'm still on a 50meg profile though. Wonder how long that will take to change.

Took less than 12 hours for me. My MyVM profile changed somewhere between 12 and 4pm and my speed increase came at about 22:30 that night.
If you want 120Meg wireless, the Hub would be no good anyway. Get an N66U from Asus.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
Laughable, and another thing that was not made clear. Initial talk was all about doubling both download an upload. The happy-clappy Usain Bolt "doublespeed" website made no reference to upload speeds (someone will tell me in tiny print somewhere there was a link to something which did, but, really, even if so that does not count). I know that eventually (no timescale I am aware of) the upload speed will also double, but even then it is tragically poor compared to the other "fibre" offerings.
How long will it be before Virgin's fibre rivals start adding upload speeds to their promotional material and what will that do to Virgin's claimed reputation for speed?

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
Anybody catch morning news on BBC, just caught last 30 sec of a H/S BB installed in a small village, 900Mb/sec down 500Mb/sec up.
Certainly wouldn't mind that for doing a bit of gaming.
(Maybe someone can find a link)
