Honestly, this is a BUSINESS. This isn't a socialist republic. Everybody is not going to get everything, you'll get what you pay for.
Does my wick in how much crap is posted in these threads sometimes. No, VM aren't go to destroy their working budget by cramming Premier Sports onto XL so someone in Wigan can watch some Rugby League. They also can't force a different company to sell them their own bloody content at the same price to a direct competitor, they can't hold prices and ignore inflation, they can't do a whole raft of this stuff for perfectly acceptable reasons. They may have shortcomings in some areas, but not to the ungodly extent some people come up with.
(That wasn't a rant at you in particular btw, just happened to be latest in a tidal wave of completely unrealistic comments)
|
Hey, leave Rugby League out of this. It is the second most popular sport on Sky, who are not paying for the sport as an act of charity.
The frustration is not that we can't get NRL and Championship Rugby League on th XL pack but that we can't get it on Virgin at all.
I suspect that the reason that Virgin haven't made a deal with Premier Sport as a stand alone channel is that the terms they are offering are so poor that it is in Premier's interest to withold the channel so that fans will eventually leave Virgin for Sky.

Yes l think people are being very unfair to Ben.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
Personally, I think that Virgin should not be renting people equipment that is not capable of receiving all of the services that they are paying for. Not an issue for me as I have TIVO, but I'd be very upset if I was paying for Sky Premium HD and not getting this content because my equipment was too old.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
If the Samsung V+HD is capable of playing MPEG4, then why don't they swap any SA customers on a case-by-case basis (i.e. swap only those who have the Sports/Movies HD pack).
I can't imagine it's a huge number (in comparison to the total customer base) that have Sports/Movies HD on an SA box.
Appears to be easy to blame a technical non-issue for an obvious business-focused decision.

Except that it's already been stated on here that Premier Sport don't want to be a stand-alone channel on VM. They want to be bundled into one of the packages.

That is very good news, it will further improve the Virgin VOD service!
But why is it been launched seperately in Ex-NTL and Ex Telewest areas, I thought both networks were fully intergrated, it has been 6 years now!

Just remember only around 12% to 15% of Virgins TV customers have TiVo. There's still 85% of their customer base yet to embrace it. People will bitch and moan if they feel they are being forced to take a box they don't want or feel they don't need.
Just because Virgin feel TiVo is the future, doesn't mean their customers agree. We'll just have to wait and see if these tactics pay off for Virgin.
|
In that case, can it be possible to have more than 3 Tivo STB's?

They are on the same network, but it makes sense to do things in stages, so any problems can be handled by the call centres.

Because they can still be isolated on the network if VM wants.
