And how much of the cost for the tattoo goes to the poppy appeal
I donate but tend to just go out to the nearest field and grab a real poppy (there's still a few about this time of the year though not many)

Re: Poppy Appeal 2011.
THE FINAL INSPECTION
The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass.
'Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you ? Have you always turned the other cheek ? To My Church have you been true?'
The soldier squared his shoulders and said, 'No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God.
'Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell.'

Re: Poppy Appeal 2011.
I'm loving all the unexpected poppy-themed items the RBL is selling but to be honest I think nothing gets the message across better than just a simply poppy. I'm sure all the stuff they're selling will make loads of cash for such a worthy charity but I'd rather be straightforward about it.
Kudos to whoever came up with the ideas for all that gear though
edit: I quite like the wristbands but with the weather we're having right now, it would never get seen

Donated and bought the song. Hard to value the benefit on my life of those who have sacrificed over the years

None of it, the donation to the RBL is an extra

Re: Poppy Appeal 2011.
I have an enamel badge that I bought a few years ago but I still donate and have a car poppy and a sticker on my windscreen and one in the rear window which I paid for a few days ago.
If possible I always watch the service on Remembrance Sunday and Nimrod always brings a tear to my eye.
Also here is Nimrod from the 2008 Remembrance Sunday.

Re: Poppy Appeal 2011.
Over the years I have bought myself the current jewellery version of the Poppy along with a few of the small enameled lapel badges which I give away as presents, this way I make sure all my family wear them.

Re: Poppy Appeal 2011.
I have always supported the poppy appeal every since I was young.
But things like this make me sick. Ebay
Quote:
Usually the Royal British Legion would be delighted to see one of its poppies selling for £175 but, gallingly, the charity is unlikely to see any of the money.
In a year when the RBL is seeking to raise a record amount with its annual two-week appeal, the charity released a set of limited-edition poppy brooches to stimulate interest.
The move was so successful that the gold-plated Buckley Poppy Brooches, which are also inlaid with Swarovski crystal, sold-out at their original price of £9.99.

Re: Poppy Appeal 2011.
Well I reckon the paper poppies are best because they are made by disabled ex service men.

A team of about 50 people—most of them disabled former British military personnel—work all year round to make millions of poppies at a factory in Richmond.

Re: Poppy Appeal 2011.
It would be nice in view of the dwindling number of veterans if everyone would make the attempt to get to their local memorial service on the Sunday in view of the fact it is the 90th anniversary..
