AirPlay using VM superhub 2ac in wifi router mode

I have just installed a VM superhub 2ac and should like to continue to use it in its default router mode and as a wifi access point. It seems to work well for most purposes.
However it doesn't seem to support Apple AirPlay properly. This is a real bummer. I have an Airport Express that is connected to my stereo and have reconfigured the Airport Express to "join an existing wireless network", configuring it join the wireless network that is provided by the VM superhub. It kinda works, in that iTunes music selected on my iMac computer will play on the stereo. This pathway uses wired Ethernet from the computer to the router and then wifi to the Airport Express.
BUT iPhone and iPad will not play AirPlay properly. I can see the AirPlay icon and can attempt to use it- but the service is intermittent at best. It seems that the local upstream wifi and/or the lan router will just not support the AirPlay protocols. Unless there is some necessary configuration that I have missed?
I read in a forum somewhere a comment posted by a VM engineer that "Virgin Media routers do not support AirPlay". He advised, as have many others, to put the VM hub into simple modem mode and to purchase a separate decent router. I think it was a few years old. It can't still be true can it? Surely this state-of-the-art wifi router can support the very popular AirPlay system?

Re: AirPlay using VM superhub 2ac in wifi router mode

I use the SH2AC with an Apple TV, and use AirPlay from my iPad, and it works fine.

Re: AirPlay using VM superhub 2ac in wifi router mode

I use airplay from my Macbook pro to my AV amp using an app on my android phone to control it and it works perfectly.

Re: AirPlay using VM superhub 2ac in wifi router mode

Sounds like some issue/bugginess with the wireless link between your iDevices and the router. It doesn't really matter what device you have as far as supporting Airplay is concerned. Routers support sending and receiving data. Airplay is data.

Smile Re: AirPlay using VM superhub 2ac in wifi router mode

Thanks for the comments. Sometime between then and now it has started to work! So the SH2AC does indeed seem to be fine in its default router mode and with its wifi. I installed an Apple TV and AirPlay worked fine from the iOS devices. The old Airport Express connected to my stereo was still being reluctant, but then some days later it started to work. I hadn't changed anything. I guess the old Airport Express may have been a bit wonky. So there we have it: AirPlay DOES work through the VM SH2AC .
