Re: FIFA are considering scrapping the offside rule

Wonder how a game would play without the offside rule, will attackers stay at one end of the pitch, the defense back with them, with the midfield doing a lot more running? Will it be long ball ahoy? Or will it remain much the same but teams would need to cover faster players better in the absence of the offside trap?

I am for anything that increases the flow of the game and makes it more exciting.

No more explaining to women for the entire match what the off-side rule is.

Re: FIFA are considering scrapping the offside rule

How about they implement a few useful things first, like a video ref ....

Re: FIFA are considering scrapping the offside rule

I personally think the offside rule was always simple enough anyway and I feel its required

I do have to agree with Paul and think a video ref would stop the cheating and think this needs to be dealt with first. Nothing worse in sport than a poor sport and it seems to be promoted in football with the endless dives and fake falls pretending they habe been hit and rolling around like babies

best thing they could do with foot ball is mandatory immediate hospitalization for anyone falling over in agony

i think the game would be much better after that

Re: FIFA are considering scrapping the offside rule

I'd prefer something like in Ice Hockey, the "pitch" in thirds with the 2 dividing lines being an offside line and you're only offside if you're in your teams offensive third when the puck/ball enters it. Linesmen will then have a definitive line to look along and won't have to be looking in 2 places at once making the decisions easier.

Re: FIFA are considering scrapping the offside rule

I cannot understand why this would be a good move. There are bigger issues or ways to improve the game than removing the offside rule. Like video refs or goal line technology. Keep the offside rule but fix the goals that are not goals and vice versa.

Bad move Sepp imo, can't see anyone going for it.

Agreed, We have been using video ref's in super league and they work very well.
