Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
It will be a tainted result if decided by the double points meddling - a desperate attempt to keep things alive until the final race, a win by double points will be a false result, whether it's the driver you support, or the one you don't.
So I hope double points does not make a difference!

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
Whatever happens, the title almost certainly is going to be decided in Abu Dhabi. Which means for double points not to be the deciding factor we will now head for the final race of the season hoping for no drama, but instead for a boring race won by whoever is leading the championship coming away from Interlagos. You couldn't make it up.

I will feel a little sorry for Rosberg if he wins on double points. Obviously I'm sure he'd take it (!), but he'll forever be known as the driver who won on double points, just as his dad is still known as the World Champion who only one won race. Just like his dad I don't think he's got another title in him either so it would be a tainted win, especially as Lewis has won more races this season and is only really not already champion because of reliability.

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
Now definitely going down to the last race. That was really good today. Maybe we don't need a full grid after all!

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
If Lewis wins the next race and Rosberg is second, Rosberg could still win the championship if Lewis doesn't finish i am told...........
So ridiculously not fair and the person who came up with that double points rule needs to not be in this sport.

It was put forward by the f1 commission (fia, Bernie, Pirelli and a few other interested parties) and then unanimously accepted by the Strategy group (Merc, Williams, Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and currently Lotus).
In other words Toto wanted it.
On the plus side for Lewis he only needs second places now.

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
Gutierrez and Sutil out and Ericsson and Nasr in at Sauber for next year. Quite excited by Nasr, and he's well backed so he could and potentially should be around a while. Not sorry to see the back of Sutil.

But Sutil's contract doesn't finish until end of 2015.

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
My understanding is that Banco Brasil are backing Nasr and have paid up Sutil's contract. Any comment from Sutil is likely to be sour grapes - he has got form for that!
Monisha Kaltenborn has made it quite clear that Ericsson and Nasr are their drivers for next year.
Sauber will probably also end up with Marussia's prize money in light of the news posted by Den above. Caterham have started a crowd funding exercise for £2.35m to allow them to get to Abu Dhabi, which feels like a rather cynical attempt to pocket some prize money before folding themselves.

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
Rosberg on pole Hamilton second.
Quote:
Title permutations
Lewis Hamilton has a 24-point lead over Nico Rosberg with a maximum of 75 points remaining - 25 in Brazil for a win and 50 in Abu Dhabi. The world title cannot be decided at this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix.
If Hamilton wins in Brazil and Rosberg fails to finish, he will have a 49-point lead going to Abu Dhabi. Hamilton would then need to finish 10th or higher to clinch the title.
If Rosberg wins in Brazil and Hamilton retires, Rosberg will lead the championship by one point going to Abu Dhabi. Hamilton would then need to finish ahead of Rosberg in the points in Abu Dhabi to secure the title.
If Hamilton wins in Brazil, with Rosberg second, Hamilton will arrive in Abu Dhabi with a 31-point lead. But if Rosberg then wins and Hamilton finishes sixth or lower, Rosberg will win the title.
Got it?
