I'm quite happy with my nokia 6630 as a phone, but not as a mp3 player.

Have you used one yet?

I find it highly practical to use and as JT is a proper geek he needs internet access to be available 24/7 regradless of location. I'll try take a zoomed in shot of the text for you JT. It does render the text very clearly at max zoom.

I've seen one in use. If one was given to me I'd be grateful but there's no way I'd pay for one.

I ain't disputing the technical side of them, but I can watch a film on my k800i if I wanted to, I can listen to radio, mp3s etc etc, but often don't, it gets used to call people up and recieve calls, it's a phone. You are paying for a gadget and I respect that, if I got one I'd use it to browse online but I can honestly say it would be short lived.

It doesn't matter what anyone says at the end of the day, any one that pays for something like this IS going to big it up to justify their causes. And good luck to them, enjoy it.

I have a short commute and the k800i is great for music or radio on the commute. The browser is good enough for when I am out and about as is google maps. The 3MP camera and proper flash mean that it is used as my point and shoot camera, battery life is great I can text almost blindfold as I have a tactile keyboard and it tenaciously holds onto signals. It also fits into my jeans pocket, can be sat on and is pretty tough. Funnily enough the lens cover has stopped it getting drowned in beer on a pub table so I could also say that is a useful feature.
The iPhone is nice but well my phone takes better pictures in good and bad light. My phone plays music and my phone makes calls.

unlimited wifi hotspot (up to £30 on freedom to surf for 20 hours)
200 mins
200 texts

Video on most mobiles is pretty crappy anyway and despite owning (at the time one of the most advanced camera/video phones the k750i) I only took one video on it and that was useless.

I fail to see how surfing on the n95 can be anywhere near as fast as on wi-fi on the iphone anyway. I think those that are knocking it are perhaps too tight to buy one and are jealous ;-)
It actually is a tempting offer, IF it was 3G.

Im paying 30 quid a month at the moment for Vodafone with no Data and 200 mins / Texts any network.

Saying that, i didn't have to pay for my N73.

Apple is asking for 30 per cent of subscriber revenue and can't provide enough iPhones for a Christmas 2007 launch in Spain, according to Spanish technology company SevenClick, which reports that it got the information from a senior manager at Telefonica. It also claims the May 2008 launch will see a 3G version of Apple's super-slate.

nothing like speculation..i highly doubt we will see a 3g version so soon (especially in the uk)

Steve Jobs did state that he did not think they would have the tech to achieve a good 3g battery life in the size of handset they want to manufacture till at least the back end of 2008.

I can see an iphone nano coming out before then.

That said I would have gone for a slightly larger handset with large hard drive and 3g if available as it would still have been thinner than my older xda mini s.

I'm one of the 250000 unlockers, mine runs on Vodafone ... the iPhone is a great phone imho... I don't exactly see what the big deal about 3g is? EDGE is plenty fast enough, I get about 160k stream on my iphone, and I don't live in London or in a "major metropolitan area".

I can get up to 2.8 meg on my 3G phone. Ok, I rarely need to, but the option is there.

Re: iPhone UK Release info

I see, thats fast, but does anyone need it? esp considering the phone also has wifi?

I found it interesting to note in the other thread someone started about 3g and video, that very few people actually use 3g for video... it's mainly data... in which case wifi would be my prefered option.

Re: iPhone UK Release info

WIFI is not always an option ...

Will O2 let UK iPhone users upgrade to the 3G iPhone early?

Quote:
“Usually networks prevent handset upgrades during contract term because the cost of the device is subsidised in line rental over the lifetime of that contract. This is not the case with the iPhone, as all of the handset cost has been paid upfront by the customer at point of sale. If a customer wants to upgrade from the current iPhone to a newer version less than 18 months later, where is the downside for O2? In fact, why not happily upgrade customers to a newer iPhone (taking another small percentage of the hardware sale in the process) and use that opportunity to reset and extend their existing 18 month contract?”
