Of Course I would, I happen to consider tracking as a beneficial improvement in communications technology.
Hugh, you actually suggest that to track a person, albeit an Email recipient or the security forces with some criminal, their consent should be obtained ? Preposterous.
In case you have overlooked something, this very Forum has a tracking option listed for private messages and no recipients permission is needed. A bit of hypocrisy Hugh ?

Hypocrisy, no - lack of information/knowledge on your part, yes...
The Forum PM software gives the recipient the option to cancel the read receipt from being sent.
btw, as Russ posted, helluva Straw Man argument, comparing tracking a potential/actual terrorist with your wishes to see if someone has read your email.

OK Hugh, you have your opinions and I have mine - you don`t win and neither do I in the opinion stakes, it is a stand off. So let it rest at that. I think the matter between us is closed.
In fact I myself have nothing more to offer on the subject than I have already posted and unless a particular post justifies an answer, I will now retire and enjoy my Email tracking in perfect peace and tranquility.

Re: Email Tracking
You appear to be confusing facts with opinions - you are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts....
You stated that this forum did the same shabby practice as you did - getting a read receipt sent without the recipient's permission - I just pointed out your statement was not a true reflection of actuality.....

Hugh, for Heavens sake, do you not understand the first principles of tracking anything ? Do the military have to request the permission of their radar target before they carry on ? Come off it Hugh, let us consider the real world.
To have a tracking system whereby the recipient can cancel the return notification is so ridiculously crazy that the very suggestion becomes nothing more than a joke.
Final word. I will respond to sensible posts but not to this continual conflict of personal morality vs. tracking, which destroys the very concept of communications technological improvement and results in nothing more than an incidental squabble.
That is it Hugh, over and out.

Re: Email Tracking
Love it - now you're comparing yourself to the Military, as well as the Security Services.....
btw, it's "Out" - "Over and Out" is only used in films, not in the real military.

Hugh you are impossible and have obviously never been in the military. Over and out is used in field communications. But since you use films as the criterion for military terminology, keep on watching.
You do get everything wrong. I am not comparing myself with the military, the example was given in some desperate attempt to show you that to ask for a receipt from a target, is so stupid that it is barely worth my effort in quoting it since you did not get the message.
I am finished with this thread.
There is nothing you can say or do that will alter the widespread practice of Email tracking one iota. Enjoy your day. I have unsubscribed from this thread.

Re: Email Tracking
LOL.......
So my time in the RAF, when after my basic training, I spent nine months Telegraphist training, and after that, Q-Tel-SP and Radio Operator Telegraphist training (at North Luffenham, Bletchley Park, and GCHQ), the time I spent at RAF Digby, with detachments to Norn Iron, Gib, Troodos, Masirah, Hong Kong, et al, and my last couple of years being stationed at Teufelsberg in West Berlin, don't count, then.......
The standard voice procedures we were taught were -
Over — I have finished talking and I am listening for your reply. Short for "Over to you."
Out — I have finished talking to you and do not expect a reply.

The expression, 'Over and Out', brings a smile to anyone with experience using radios.
This expression is never used these days by those with any training in radiotelephony or ‘RT’ as it is more commonly known. It is never used for a good reason: it makes no sense.
The two words have distinct and contradictory meanings.

Is it your honours degree that has made you such a fine judge of character, or your distinguished career in engineering? Or perhaps it's your decade of experience of Internet forums?

I bet you're right. In another thread he says in his first reply "With replies like yours, it is a waste of my time even looking at this thread again". And yet he keeps coming back for another four pages...

Oh I do so love threads that make me giggle. I just wish you lot could actually list all your credentials so that the original poster could see who he is trying to best. OK I know you won't as your not the type of people to flaunt your achievements unless sorely provoked but I would like to see the effect it would undoubtedly have.
Best part of being a member on here for some years is knowing the background of many of our members and subsequently knowing when I should bow out gracefully from a thread and save some semblance of self respect.
