Motors TV falls off air.

Motors TV has today been taken off VM and been replaced by a slate that says:

'Oops! We are currently experiencing technical difficulties and cannot bring you this channel at the present time'.

The "Technical difficulties" appear to be that it has stopped broadcasting on satellite and has been removed from the Sky EPG.

It was formerly on Sky as a FTV channel ie encrypted, but free.

Last February it was taken off the Sky EPG because of a dispute with Sky, but was still broadcasting off the EPG. At that time, it carried on uninterrupted on VM, so I assume that VM take their feed from the Astra satellite.

Not looking good.

Unverified information now received that Motors TV was put into receivership five weeks ago by a French court and that it has now gone for good.

A shame, not a channel I watched a lot but they had occasional races on there that I liked.

Re: Motors TV falls off air.

Motors TV is still broadcasting on 19.2° 12522MHz V 22000 8PSK 2/3.

Perhaps VM could take a feed from there?

The slate still suggests that this is a temporary situation, maybe VM are sorting out an alternative feed??

They did this recently with MTV Live HD.

Update: Seen information that suggests that their creditors include Sky and VM. As they are now at 'no signal', I imagine that their uplink provider pulled the plug first due to non payment.

If this is correct, I imagine that VM will want paying before redirecting the EPG slot to point at 19.2°.

Will it stay like that permanently or is it a temporary measure to fulfill contractual agreements ?

I don't know for sure, but I suspect it's to fulfill a contractual agreement as it's not showing any adverts.

When The Childrens Channel (TCC) closed on satellite, it carried on for a time on cable to fulfill the contract. From what i've been told, there was no continuity and it was just a bare bones minimum service.

That's the french version of the channel, which is apparently still broadcasting although the parent company is serious trouble. There is a licence for this version of the channel to broadcast into the UK.

Apparently, the Scandinavian version is still on air too. The position of the Greek version is not yet known.

I wonder if any of these have English soundtracks that VM could use for an exclusive channel?

It might win over some people over from Sky.

Re: Motors TV falls off air.

Motors TV has unexpectedly returned to VM EPG number 545.

I'm still not hopeful of this being a long term arrangement as this is a result of the satellite uplink being switched back on and the channel returning to Sky.

In the past, administrators of struggling channels have been known to switch feeds back on to simply keep the SD EPG slot alive as it is a valuable asset that can be sold on.

This is because the SD channel launch queue has been closed for a long time and the only way that new SD channels can launch is by buying an existing EPG slot. If the slot stops broadcasting for a time, Sky remove it from their EPG, it becomes unavailable and simply becomes lost.

Broadcasts cant reuse that Slot on Sky after 30days.
