Re: most popular ISP

I'm currently happy with NTL.

You can't really group Virgin and Tesco in with Ntl/Telewest as there completely different, although i know they use Ntl, but it's ADSL and not cable.

NTL - been with them for the past 4 years and have never had any problems with their Internet, never had a need to call CS.

But do they actually give UNLIMITED usage? as far as i know, all of em except for AOL have conditions whereby it all depends on fair usage etc...
any other provider that is absolutely unlimited?

Re: most popular ISP

I wonder how Orange/Wanadoo will fare, with this news on the BBC website
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6058154.stm

The broadband service run by mobile firm Orange is experiencing a "major" national outage.

Several users have complained that they have been unable to use their connection since Monday afternoon.
The company said the fault on the service, formerly known as Wanadoo, was due to a "third party network failure affecting large parts of country". Orange said they were working to fix the problem but there is no indication when a normal service will resume.
The latest broadband service status report on the Orange website said the service was "up and running at the moment," but the report was dated August 2006.

U mean without any fair usage policy??

Lots of people have been complaining about the service failure.
That one made me laugh:
It went down about 8:45 on Monday for us, and appeared to start working again, until about 3:45pm.. That's it. We are an old freeserve customer, and the diagnostic program just keeps repeating it self, Authenticating ........
Philip , London

There's only so much orange CS can do i supose. They can't be calling 2million people!!!

Re: most popular ISP

NTL.Telewest are the UK's biggest broadband provider.

They currently have 2.8million users, where as BT only have 2.2million, but up untill de-regulation of the market happened, they were the only Telco company in the UK, if anything BT should be the biggest - but they are not, and if you have bb with them, and also BT, you would know why.

Re: most popular ISP

It seems a little unfair by asking the "most popular" - perhaps "most desirable" would be better if you're trying to gauge what people want compared to what people are "stuck with".

A large % of broadband customers are restricted by availability of ISP - it's great to think that NTL:Telewest is faring so well (you would expect that as this is a CABLE forum), but a lot of potential customers simply cannot benefit as there is no provision in their area for a cable service.

Re: most popular ISP

Ive not got a problem with NTL yeah I have problems with CS over retention offers and the new billing but its a lot lot better than it used to be a few years ago. My speed is pretty constant with dip due to network lag which is fine here. There hasnt even been a dns problem for a good while now so NTL

Most desirable could be a different post alltogether.
I wanted to know the most popular and that the way the poll goes.
P.S thats the reason i posted it in alternatives to ntl/telewest>other ISP
