Better Video Card for XPS 8100 using stock PSU

I have a Dell XPS Studio 8100 with a HD 5670 and wondered if anyone can recommend a (significantly) better card that would work with the stock PSU which I think is 350W? I don't really want to pay more than £100 if I can help it.

The boy is leaving home in Sept and wants to take his PC with him. I have have fitted a SSD which has perked things up a lot but the current card may not be the best for the sort of (Steam) games he runs (FPS & Strategy mostly).

It may be that there is no viable step up without a new PSU but I thought I'd ask .. thanks

Re: Better Video Card for XPS 8100 using stock PSU

Probably looking at a Nvidia GTX750Ti.

Requires no additional power other than the power provided by the PCI-E slot, has more Vram and will use probably a little bit less power overall but not much.

I have one in my media/lan pc now but I have yet to game on it, but according to reviews it should easily handle most games at 1080p with high settings.

Thanks for this. Ebuyer have this card for £96.99 but say it needs a 400W PSU Do you think they are just being conservative here?

Re: Better Video Card for XPS 8100 using stock PSU

^^ Pretty solid recommendation right there. A 350w PSU is going to be the limiting factor and that's about the best you can get with one.

That said, depending on the rest of the components you could probably get away with a GTX 960 which will be much faster and not a lot more expensive.

The recommended figures are always bloated. Tomshardware says it needs a 300W PSU:

The card uses less than 75w so unless you have a dual-8-core CPU system even a good quality 350w is overkill.
