Prepare for more retail gloom as the appalling weather dents sales of summer clothes, gardening equipment and other leisure related goods etc.

Re: Clinton Cards prepares for administration
This may be a little simplistic here, but it does seem a lot of these companies over expanded during the easy credit years, and it's now coming back to bite them on the backside

Re: Clinton Cards prepares for administration
Just because a retail business goes bust, doesn't automatically mean that retail sales have gone down overall . Habits change and other smaller chains or independent shops have taken over the sales.

But we always put up birthday and christmas cards in this house, at Christmas they will be displayed for 2 to 3 weeks, birthday cards stay up on the mantlepiece/windowsills for 3 days or so.
If you sent me an ecard I would have to provide the paper/card, ink and time to print it out. It doesn't exactly show caring in the same way, does it?

Postal charge increases may have been the final nail in their coffin.

Re: Clinton Cards prepares for administration
As previously stated, Clinton have failed miserably in moving with the times.
The margin on greeting cards is phenomenal and Clinton, like Hallmark, had it away until places like Card Factory hit the scene.
We have a decent sized card area instore and until 2 years ago bought our cards almost exclusively through Hallmark wholesale. Margins of 50 - 60% were achieved on products retailing at prices up to £4.99.
When we saw sales dropping we stopped buying from Hallmark and started selling more of the cards like Card Factory sell at prices of less than £1.00.
Since most of these cards cost around 10p - 25p in the trade it was a no brainer really.
