Re: Areas already upgraded (2012 double speed upgrades)

Just a small question, my Uncle is being sent a Superhub as his modem can't support 20Mb (it's an NTL:home 120 I think). Will this mean he'll get 30Mb once the Superhub is connected, even though the initial upgrade was from 10Mb to 20Mb?

Re: Areas already upgraded (2012 double speed upgrades)

nope, although customers "have" to have a shub for 30mbit because they need to be on docsis3 for the speed the shub is backwards compatible with docsis1 and 2 and can be configured for all speeds. When you hook it up and gtet it registered it will downloaded the latest firmware and then the config file for the speed you have been provisioned for (20mbit)

Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me

Yep. With the Superhub the L tier is 30Mb.

Re: Areas already upgraded (2012 double speed upgrades)

OK, I've been doubled up to XL60mbps (from XL30), happened yesterday morning I believe from the modem uptime, but I wasn't in for long after work yesterday so didn't spot until now..

Area 24, AL7 (Welwyn Garden City/Panshanger )

Considering we were forecast April-July, I reckon mid-May's not a bad effort.

Speedtest.net result below:

Looks like I've lost a little bit of the upstream which always maxed out previously.

Same area here, only get around 20-30mb on Speedtest.net. I get 59mb on the BT Speedtester.

I think I got lucky with the selected server on that test that I posted. A couple of other checks were much worse, but download tests have me managing to get 7.4MBps consistently, so that's pretty much nearly 60Mbps I think.

Jitter looks pretty awful this morning though - my ping chart looks horrible. Not sure if that's a reflection of work still going on. pingtest.net only scored me at a B with a warning about online gaming not being optimal. Will see what it looks like in a couple of weeks time before worrying about it.

Re: Areas already upgraded (2012 double speed upgrades)

Is there any technical or financial reason why they would only go from 4 -> 6 instead of 4 -> 8 downstream channels?

Re: Areas already upgraded (2012 double speed upgrades)

Some areas might even get away with less channels so they can save money and time by using less, I think we all know what virgin is like for cutting corners.

Although in saying that some areas seem to be being treated differently my friend on Belf has been upgraded with 5 channels and thats in a student area (literally) while in my area Bele we have 6 channels but no double speed yet.

Just noticed that our 30Mb has been doubled today (downstream only), and coincidentally the wireless radio in the superhub seems to have broken.

Area is brig17-2-0 on the 30MB package.

Re: Areas already upgraded (2012 double speed upgrades)

Not sure if posted already but I know my area has been done.

We upgraded to 30Mbit and were told over the phone the area was ready to get the double speed increase straight away so we are went straight from 10Mbit to 60Mbit.

Re: Areas already upgraded (2012 double speed upgrades)

Hi

Yes i have been doubled up (area 24 AL10 Hatfield) from 10Mbs to 20Mbs.

BUT i was getting a solid 9.9 Mbs before, but now i get about 15-16 Mbs. I thought i would get closer to 20 Mbs. They are offering us the super hub for £20 if we have problems. Should i try the super hub? Currently have the blue ntl 250 modem and an Apple Airport Express wireless router. Any advice?? I have heard bad things about the super hub wireless ability.
