Sky Sports F1 subscription change

Seems Sky Sports F1 is going to be part of Sky Sports Pack only and no longer part of HD pack without Sky Sports

This was always going to happen , those who already get it in the HD pack will continue to receive it.

It was just a matter of time. Anyone that has/add's the HD pack before April will get it part of the pack anyone after April will only get it part of Sky Sports pack

Re: Sky Sports F1 subscription change

I big screw you customers from sky,

All for the cheap cheap price £9.45 per race

So is this money grab to pay for the obsene amount of money paid for football rights or the obsene amount of money paid for F1 rights or just a straight up money grab?

As usual like most companies they change the goalposts as they go along in order to get even more money out of customers.

And this is why I've always felt that sports subscriptions should be seperated somehow , many people have no interest whatsoever in football and follow sports such as Rugby League , Cricket , F1 etc however to follow their favourite sport on TV they are forced to subscribe and pay exuberant amounts to fund primarily Premier league football which is not fair at all in my opinion.

Sky is in it to make money...they are not a charity.

No one is forced to pay, and you could always campaign to make sports free. But until the sports themselves decide they don't want the money (remembering that each sports could broadcast for free, there would be a channel for them), then life goes on as is

We all know they are in it to make money Colin but rest assured if it continues to rise in price for us subscribers then the golden goose that made them will start to lose its lustre.

but sky know if they lose football they will lose loads of customers too MM so they pay over odds to make sure they get it as vast majority of sky sports subscribers do so for the football

Were in my post you've quoted did I insinuate that Sky should lose football , I merely said non football sports fans get a raw deal , I agree with Colin's points about business and other sports only to willing to take Sky's money even if the end result is less viewers.

no where MM I was just making the point that football is what gives them there most customers and they could not afford to lose it and yes I agree with your point non football fans get raw deal but that why sky mainly focus on the football it makes them the most I know I wouldn't have SS without the football sky will make sure they never lose it

Re: Sky Sports F1 subscription change

But...the raw deal comes from the sport hierarchy accepting sky's price.

they don't actually have to accept the highest bid...if they felt they wanted all to see it. indeed, they could give the broadcast rights for free.

And den I agree, there is a limit to how much I am willing to pay. Once I reach it..I won't pay.

For the most part..it is football I am paying for (not overly concerned about the other sports).
Eg depends on how much I will be charged for BT, I might not take that channel. The wallet rules my heart

I know not everyone will agree however I'd like SKY to restructure their Sports content into 5 stand alone specialised channels. For example:

SKY Football - £14.00 per month (Nothing but football on this channel)
SKY Combat - £8.00 per month (Nothing but boxing, WWE, UFC if they buy the rights)
SKY Motor - £8.00 per month (F1, Speedway, Indie Racing League etc...)
SKY British - £8.00 per month (Cricket, Rugby, Golf and Tennis)
SKY Sports Mix - £8.00 per month (Cycling, Darts, NBA etc...)
A red button facility will also be available for each channel showing niche sports like table tennis, fishomania etc...

Okay so I know the channel names suck, and the packages would need some fine tuning, however this would allow people to subscribe to a specific sport they enjoy plus get some extra content on the channel too. If you take all of the channels then it'll cost you the same as SKY Sports currently does.
