Is it the Tivo that's poor or the particular Netflix software on it that's poor? Are there faster Tivos elsewhere then that might come to the UK soon?

I found vms tivo to be clunky and slow, my friend in the US says her tivo is very smooth and quick.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services
Rights do vary beween territories but HBO's back catalogue rights are not exclusive to Sky. I guess that Vodafone might be tempted to bundle in Now TV instead though.

That's what was said on here but its incorrect , its the entire catalogue hence why nobody else offers HBO content on a subscription basis.

That would make total sense; is there a source link so we can nail this once and for all?

Apologies, MM, you are right. You can buy, but you cannot subscribe.

He's right, Andrew. I think there was some confusion on here before with US (as opposed to UK) rights.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services
BSkyB was believed to be in competition with BT for the rights and extended its agreement with HBO after negotiating a deal reportedly worth as much as £275m
If the sky is paying that much then no wonder they don't want others to have it.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services
Rome, Band of Brothers and Deadwood air on TCM meaning Sky don't have the exclusive rights to all HBO titles. Also doesn't Sex and The city air on Comedy Central and True Blood on Fox?

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services
I'd imagine its because all of those HBO either co-produced or didn't have the exclusive distribution rights to.
Rome (co produced with BBC)
Band of brothers (co produced with BBC)
Deadwood (Paramount Home entertainment partnered and handled international distribution)
Sex and the city (CBS Television and Warner Bros involved)
True Blood (Already aired and deal in place with Fox before Sky Atlantic started.)
There are other examples Parades End was never shown as it aired on BBC Two , HBO partnered with the BBC on its production.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services
I think it'll be interesting when HBOGO launches as a stand alone service globally.
Sky had a deal in place with WWE but that never stopped the network from launching.

Yup, I can not see why HBO will not launch their own subscription service. Sky may have had exclusive rights to the subscription rights under the previous deal. Does not mean they have secured them under the extended, newer deal. I have yet to see Sky say they have exclusive subscription rights for the UK under the newest deal.
I honestly think HBO have Sky over the proverbial barrel now. If Sky still want exclusive first run rights, they will have to dance to HBO's tune in this country.
Does anyone know when the original 5 year deal for SA would have been up? Perhaps, just perhaps, we might see HBOGO launch around that time.
Equally, we may not see it arrive. Sky may very well still have exclusive subscription rights, they simply might not feel to the need to advertize the fact.

Look forward to seeing the specs of the new box, but more importantly, the price!
