If anyone is thinking about kicking or trying to kick the habit - or would like to share tips on how they broke the habit - then please feel free to post.
Please note - as per the mods - this is not a "smoking, good or bad?" thread it's somewhere for people to openly discuss their battle / planned / ongoing battle with "the weed" and hopefully help others in times where it might be needed.
Let your battle commence.

The Allen Carr method is quite good - I found that using the words 'stopped' rather than 'given up' was helpful. A subtle difference. I have 'stopped' for over a year now and am quite surprised as a fairly dug in serious smoker

Re: Stopping smoking support.
Well done on having stopped smoking spreadsheet and thank you for a timely tip for those members still hoping to give up the weed.
Tomorrow is No Smoking Day so if anyone is contemplating giving up smoking remember there will always be a helping hand and a shoulder to lean on here if needs be.

cheers - also I would suggest not to go down the "I'll just have the one a day" road as what it will do is make the event of that one much more precious if you see what I mean. Did not realise it was no smoking day tommorow
I do feel way better for it. If I can stop anyone can!

Re: Stopping smoking support.
I hold an opinion that if 'they' wanted to do a proper job of eliminating smoking they would take all the taxes off them and make them really cheap. The very nature of fags being very expensive gives them a precious value. Incidentally the National Socialist Party of Germany in the 1930's was the first government to have a proper pop at stopping people do it

Re: Stopping smoking support.
If you really, really, really wanna stop you will.
Pricing, availabilty, plain packs, you name it, has got nothing to do with it.
You stop because you finally realise that smoking is a waste of the rest of your life.
Sure the extra cash in your pocket is nice but it is just a byproduct.

Very true Mick though sometimes help is needed by even the most determined quitter. Never underestimate the power of nicotine to catch out the strongest of us and that a moment of complacency can re-awaken the addiction.

Re: Stopping smoking support.
Well today's the day. Sitting in the garden, having a coffee and my LAST smoke. Enjoying the coffee, but the cigarette's taking too long to finish - have been looking forward to the feeling of putting out my last one for a few days now, and now I'm there I'm getting impatient so I can cross that first hurdle. Edit - first hurdle crossed and it felt better than I thought it would.
Various reasons for the decision, including: - Health is the main one. The visual impacts are plain to see, the bad chest, the cough, the stained fingers etc etc The unseen impacts are worrying. I'm now well past the wrong side of 40, and there comes a point where you can only abuse your body so long.
- Time. We're so busy at work at the moment (and over the coming months) that finding time for a smoke is going to stress me out.
- Money. Though I'm lucky to be in the position that money isn't an issue, at £77.90 for 200 B&H (3 times a month) is a rediculous amount every month. Mrs G will notice the difference when the credit card statement arrives as she does the finances! We're just planning our next years holiday and if all goes well, we might be able to add a visit to Hawaii and make it a three week trip ( the extra week courtesy of B&H!!).
- Helping Mrs G. She stopped a few years ago and is now addicted to lozengers. I'm planning to use them as NRT, and then we can both wean ourselves off them together in the coming week/months.
Anyway, sorry to have brought this thread back to life, but having read through it, if I get half the support others got then I'll be well on my way.
Cheers
Grim

Well done on taking the first step
I'll be off the weed for a year in 3 weeks time. I never thought I could, but the ecigs made it possible for me.

You sound like you have really made up your mind which I believe is a key ingredient.
Keep up the resolve for the next few days and it will all be downhill thereafter.
I did it on cold turkey and it was so much easier that I thought it was gonna be.
Good luck

Re: Stopping smoking support.
Hi Grim, cheer leading support group member checking in.
I promise to check into this thread as often as possible to give you as much support as possible.
It takes a lot of will power to give up smoking and with all the reasons you have listed it seems you have really thought this through. I look forward to hearing about your side trip to Hawaii which will be all the sweeter when you can smell the delicious fragrances of all the flowers on the Island.
