Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Pilot incapacitation seems to be the hot topic on flight forums.
Very sad incident especially with all the exchange students on there.
Very sad too that sick jokes are in evidence already.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Sick jokes already - what if it was one of their loved ones/friends who died.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Getting back onto the plane spotting side..
Just bought a Sony hx400v that I was offered at a cheap price so with the bike and airshow season in full swing hopefully get some decent shots especially with both Duxford and Shuttleworth being within 30 minutes on the bike.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Just saw a ww2 fighter going that way (still waiting for camera to be delivered later this week so no pics) only got a glimpse but short and stubby with typical north american style wing profile. I'm guessing at a hellcat or similar.

Camera came last night and now just trying it out. The zoom combined with image stabilization is amazing. Here's a shot (100% crop but reduced it by 50% so I could upload within the 1MB restriction) of a Delta Airlines 767 that took off from Heathrow about 20 minutes before the shot. Current height was nearing 11,000ft and horizontal separation was about 4.5Km from my home address.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
There has been an unmarked black helicopter buzzing around the Cardiff area for most of the day.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
It's common to see them in holding patterns round there, probably training.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
at 1 stage I thought it was about to land at EMA but I was nearly home then and too far away to see it properly.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Do a google on AWACS LOUGHBOROUGH and you'll see that it's been doing it for years

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Probably ILS approach training at EMA. They do it up here from time to time: A few circuits then back off to Waddo.
