Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Well my mum starts here 9th week in the Royal Free in London.
On Saturday we were told they are seeing if a space is available they will transfer her to my local hospital, which will mean no more 4 hour round trips on the hell that is called the "London Underground".

Sorry to hear that your Mum is still in hospital but at least there is some good news for you.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I had a brilliant eureka moment an hour or so ago. Anybody who has delved into family history will appreciate how I feel when I say I found a big chunk of a jigsaw puzzle that most family trees are.
A 5 had been transcribed as a 3 in an old census so it took a typo from me to find what I'd been looking for for months. There are advantages to having iffy keyboard skills

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Yeah I stopped doing my family tree. Got bored with it. Hoping a while away from it will make me want to get back into it.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I worked with a few people that are so stupid I think they fell out of their family tree.

Yes, I know what you mean. I've been dipping in and out of it for years. Sometimes a break away does you good. It can be really fascinating when you make progress though. The downside is that when you find the answer to one particular puzzle it opens up another dozen puzzles.

I've spent the past 8 years or so doing mine and it's a never-ending task, soemetimes a labour of love. Definitely it does help to take a break and keep coming back to it.
When you're really stuck there are always people who are willing to help for nowt if you visit the right sites. While it would be nice to discover everything for yourself it's often impossible to get past a brick wall without a second set of eyes or someone with access to local sources you wouldn't otherwise be able to find elsewhere. (I have access to a few particularly Northern Ireland, Lancashire and some army&navy sources so always happy to help anyone if needed)
Also: Newspaper archives. Use them if you have access. You might be surprised what you find.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
It's currently 36c here in Alanya (I don't do heat)
However apart from the searing heat I'm having a great holiday, well apart from the hotel 200m up the road that was firebombed on the first night night and the large demonstration outside the hotel that ended up with the Turkish police firing teargas and Us being escorted to our rooms
Seems to have settled down now though !!

Wish I could swap dilli, you can have my relatively healthy body for a month and I'll take yours.
