Good question.
While you can see the extra broadband charge paying for doubling/tripling speeds, and the extra Tivo charge covering all those marvelous apps we are about to see launched on us (?!), what exactly are XL customers going to see for their £2 pm?
I'm relieved to see, not Premier Sports. I regard this as being very much a niche channel like MU TV (or ESPN for non-XL customers), it seems quite reasonable for those that want it to pay say £6 pm for the privilege.

Well lets hope they splash their cash and bring us Sky Atlantic and the ITV HD channels to start with.

It's only 'lets hope' in his most recent post. A bit less confident, perhaps?

Well I've sent an email to Sky/BT telling them if they create a new package with every TV channel under the sun and call it something like XXL for example and charge £silly/month then they could clean up in at least one household.... So keep your eyes peeled Alan

They need to massively improve BT Vision though!

Whilst Virgin Media acknowledges Premier Sports as a growing sports channel and the exclusive provider of NHL, NASCAR, Blue Square Premier, NRL and Championship Rugby League, Virgin do not believe the channel currently merits a position within any of its current TV packages (M+, L or XL), as presently afforded to other sports channels.
Premier Sports is committed to showcasing its current and growing sports content to the widest possible available audience and regrets Virgin’s decision in this regard. We will continue to offer our channel to our satellite customers and remain at all times open to re-entering discussions with Virgin at any stage should their position change.
|
We have to pay extra for BoxNation and Racing UK and even for Sky Sports, so Premier Sports should accept what Virgin has to offer, even ESPN (which was a one off) is only free for XL TV customers!

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
I think what a major problem is with Tv/ Cable broadcasters today don't provide is a challenge for each other.
The consumer are demanding so much from there supplier, and this causes a great deal of problems, Sky for example provides every channel available, and does give value for money. And gives customers what they want.
However BT Vison and VM are in a time warp and won't proceed any further until they can challenge Sky, and that is remote.
Customers on VM want the big channels ie Atlantic, Premier Sports BUT VM won't supply this, but there again consumers won't pay extra.
We have to have a broadcaster that will challenge Sky for consumers and sadly there isn't anyone out there that will do that./

Virgin has improved its service immeasurably in the last few years and again Alan you don't seem to know what you are talking about.

Yes, but as the times are changing (Sky's IPTV and Fivre Broadnband), they still need to do more, but they have done a very good job so far!

I'd like someone to explain to me how Sky argued Virgin wanted Sky Atlantic on the cheap & then went on to provide it to all their subscribers at no extra charge
I'd really like Premier Sports but if £8 buys one channel how come I get over a 100 channels that I never watch bundled in the XL pack for far less per channel? Appreciate Premier Sports is niche (& I'd probably only watch motorsports), but so are lots of others & they're still in my package even though I'll never even watch 'em once!!
