December is their biggest month for new customers taking a Prime membership for online Christmas shopping through their website. The Premier League deal fits in nicely with this. It's almost as if this package of matches was designed for Amazon and their marketing strategy. What a strange coincidence

A mate of mine seems to think BT Sports have retained Serie A

Why as its two lots of matches that the Premier League could not get a decent price for which one will be on one bank holiday and another set of 10 matches during one midweek fixture programme as l suspect Amazon paid peanuts for it as there was no chance they were going to bid for the much better pricier packages IMO..

I thought you said Amazon wouldn't bid at all, Den, or am I misremembering?
Anyway, this is just the start. The next bidding round will be very interesting indeed.

You bet, Max - just waiting for Amazon Prime to arrive on our STBs now so that all our selections can be bookmarked in 'My Shows'.
Heaven indeed!

I agree Den hardly ground-breaking two weeks of football.

BT paid £90m for the other previously unsold package.
Amazon (well done OB - one of your predictions eventually came true) paid an unknown amount for the other - BBC website says this is all 10 games from Boxing Day, and all 10 from 1 of the bank holidays - no great miss!
To watch the Amazon package you will need Amazon Prime sub, currently £79pa or £7.99pm. You will be able to watch it via a smart TV or via an Amazon Fire stick.
Does anyone know how this would work, i.e. Is it like on-demand you just stream it down when you want to watch it? If so you could watch all 10 - one after another.

Thanks, Raider!
The BBCi-Player gives you the option to watch a streamed programme live or from the start. I would expect the Amazon football stream to work a similar way.

No l can't deny that OB but my original views still stands as basically they picked up the tiddlywinks package for peanuts which the Premier League could not sell.

Agreed, Amazon are getting a toe in the water, without needing to spend billions to get the better packages.
After all, the one they got didn't sell first time around - I wonder if they bid for it than?

On the day the last 2 TV packs were announced Richard Scudamore is stepping down as premier league executive chairman by the end of this year

It is true that this is one of the minor packages, but as I said, this is a precursor of what is to come.
What I do find reassuring is that Amazon is not making an extra charge for this, which lends support to my view that customers will benefit from Amazon's entry into the fold.

I'm afraid to say that you have absolutely no basis for saying that, Den. Events are starting to prove you wrong earlier than I thought.
