I can't find any further updates, news or speculation via their Facebook page or Twitter. Also checked a couple of other forums too but all quiet.

Nothing at the moment but hopefully something will be announced soon.

Oh so true, I am sure nothing will happen to the advantage of the consumer, it never does.

That's the core network , not the actually delivery which is still ADSL.

This kind of issue is similar to the TWC v Viacom debacle in the US

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
i saw a virgin questionnaire asking customers if they would like 30mb + virgin tv for customers in non-cabled areas. So i think virgin already has permission to use bt's network. Other isp's already sell connections using bt's fibre. I'm sure we'll see vm offer 70mb + tivo in the future.

I don't see protectionism working for Sky in the long term and running the two businesses as independent entities might generate new ideas on how to use the platform for purposes other than just the delivery of their package of radio and TV channels.
I'm sure there is money to be made from more Sky content "Coming soon to ..." a variety of platforms including Virgin TV, mobile and internet services and I agree with Neil Berkett that the availability of programming from the BBC and other broadcasters needs to be improved upon although how that is achieved is a matter for some debate.
Since divesting itself of its own channels (with the exception of its 50% stake in the UKTV channels), Virgin Media is no longer a threat to other programme makers or broadcasters and should be seen as a potential customer rather than a competitor by all concerned.
|
So what you are suggesting is that BSkyB should demerge to form a Broadcaster and a satellite broadcasting and telecoms company?
If that was the case well then it would be good for VM, but both would still be 39% by News Corp of that was the case!
Maybe they could sell the satellite broadcasting and telecoms assets to BT (they have a strong Telecoms base and a weak TV base, Sky has a Strong TV base and a weak Telecom base)
Do not worry, Virgin Media would help create stong competion in theb TV and Telecoms market!
