To answer my own question it's £7 extra a month to exchange a VHD for a V6, on top of the £20 one off charge !! Want to keep my Tivo as I'm very fond of the multi-purpose Scart output. I shall stay as I am , until the inevitable price increase letter comes, and then maybe reopen negotiations.
The advert stating you can swap your old box for just £20 might be one for the Advertising Standards Authority, not the first time VM have fallen foul of them.

You could get an HDMI to Scart converter, then you'd have the best of worlds.

Plus a HDMI splitter, more clutter, with varied results by all account.
tbh Tivo has been alright of late, no problems with iplayer etc, maybe more capacity has been freed up as more move to the V6.

Well, I have my superhub upstairs, one V6 in the bedroom on the other side of the wall on the far side and another V6 downstairs (far side) all connected by wifi and it all works fine.
As long as there aren't unusual features about your house such as lead walls (!) you should not have any problems, although as spiderplant would tell you, there are no guarantees.

Re: Virgin Media V6 - Powered by TiVo(new STB)
Installed my v6 and superhub 3 yesterday. My router and box were in separate rooms, the starter kit supplied did not contain a splitter cable, so spoke to technical team and they are sending one out to me. In the mean time I have set up to work over Wi-Fi, The tech team recommended that the router is moved next to the superhub, to give the wired connection and stop buffering, for apps thst stream, but to be honest i think i will leave where it is for now until I have a issue(watched netflix yesterday with no issues). Overall feeling is that the Wi-Fi is a lot stronger, and the menu's are a lot faster. Glad I upgraded
Went through the box swap process to sync my series link. Pity we are not yet at the stage when it will sync my downloaded programs. (I think that will come one day)..

My V6 arrived this morning, and it was a morsel of micturation to self-install.
Whizzing along - quite impressed by it so far.

I installed ours on Saturday, a complete faff.
Wouldn't download new software, phoned 150 who did something and software downloaded.
Couldn't get the remote into 'pairing with TV mode'. Nary another green light to be seen after the double green flashed and channels kept changing. Tried taking out batteries, giving it a stern look and finally swearing at it. Finally found the page link that allowed me to try specific codes and of course our TV used the last code in a long list. <sigh>
4 hours later still no sign of the V6 on the transfer links page. Phoned 150 and sod it.....the moment Steve answered, the dang thing appeared on the page.
Other than all that the V6 is a vast improvement over my old Tivo and I too am quite impressed.

Re: Virgin Media V6 - Powered by TiVo(new STB)
Not sure if its a problem on V6 boxes but i have Sky sports and full house pack but when i go to watch anything on Sky on demand or anything from on demand it keeps asking me to subscribe.
but i do subscribe to it and have done a few box reboots but its still the same.
so is this a issue where i need to ring up to get sorted as i dont understand why it wont let me watch anything on demand.
i have just tried it again and where it tells you about the program it says upgrade to watch!!!!
its like it thinks i dont have any of the sky channels for some reason.

Re: Virgin Media V6 - Powered by TiVo(new STB)
Anyone with a newly installed/swapped TiVo you may have some issues at the moment
Customers with newly swapped/installed TiVo box may see error C119 on screen at the moment
We have identified the problem and an engineer is on their way.
Fix estimate: 21 August 14:15
