Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
My guess is they're trying to either get it for free in XL or are signing deals for watching it on mobiles and tablets.
Or both.

Now Premier Sports also has NHL and full HNIC I would be delighted if VM did a carriage deal with them as I really miss my Ice Hockey Fix. I did post this question on VM's facebook page ,but as expected they had no new info.

Talks must be at an advanced stage as they don't normally comment on negotiations...

Hello,
I'm posting on behalf of Emma Jones, who heads up the division of our Digital Entertainment service that offers premium entertainment channels such as Sky Sports & Movies.
Thank you for reaching out to us, we always welcome feedback from our customers.
Virgin Media does not typically comment on commercially sensitive negotiations with channel providers, however, we can confirm that we are in talks with Premier Sports and as soon as there is something to announce we will do so. We continuously strive to provide our customers with the best quality and most popular channels in the market, but we have to balance cost and potential demand when we assess new channel launches.
We are delighted to offer our customers a fantastic line up of sports channels which includes all four Sky Sports channels plus Sky Sports News, Eurosport, ESPN (at no extra cost to XL customers) and a growing list of specialist sports channels, including Racing UK, Man Utd TV, Liverpool TV, At the Races, PrimeTime, and the recent launch of Box Nation. We’re also delighted to be offering all our basic TV subscribers a free month of ESPN in January. We hope that you enjoy the service.
Thanks again,
Regards,
Emma Jones

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
I'd been hoping for Premier Sports for about 16 months. At one stage their boxing coverage was fantastic however they seem to have eased off a little focusing more on rubgy, ice hockey and motorsports in recent months.
I must say since the launch of BoxNation, which I've added to my package for £10.00 per month, I would no longer be interested in paying for Premier Sports, but if it was added to the XL package.......WOW!
Imagine both ESPN and Premier Sports free in either the XL or VIP package. That would surely turn the heads of some sports fans who currently have SKY. Actually just had a thought, and it's nothing more than a thought, I hope the deal for SKYF1 hasn't fallen through and Virgin are now trying to rush an alternative sports channel deal through instead. It just seems odd that for 16 months Virgin didn't even acknowledge Premier Sports existed whenever I and others phoned and e-mailed them asking for the channel to be made available. Now a deal seems imminent. Surely this isn't because a few thousand rugby fans suddenly made some noise.

It could be due to VM perception that Premier Sports now have better content that appeals to more customers.

That is possible. It was just a thought I had, nothing more. For some reason I thought back to when the SKY basic channels were pulled by SKY back in March 2007. Virgin reinvested the money saved from losing the SKY channels 3 months later securing a deal which saw Setanta Sports 1, Setanta Sports 2, Setanta Golf, Racing UK, Celtic TV and Rangers TV being added to the XL package.
Smallworld Cable agreed a deal for SKYF1 without too much fuss yet nothing from Virgin. Surely a company of Virgins stature should be able to nail down a deal with SKY before an upstart company like Smallworld Cable?
That fact that Virgin are making more noise about Premier Sports than SKYF1 currently just got me thinking what would Virgin do if a deal for SKYF1 didn't happen.....Premier Sports!

Premier Sports is already broadcasting and Sky F1 isn't, so makes sense they make an announcement about PS first

Mmmmmmmm............
As SKY F1 launches at the beginning of March can I then assume an announcement about Premier Sports, and it's arrival on the Virgin platform will happen within the next 7 weeks?

What DF is saying is that we are getting both PS and F1 so don't worry.

My point that until 8pm every night, Sky Atlantics programming is dire, somewhat free to air quality, they rely solely on repeating Star Trek, ER, and the X Files every day, they need to like invest more in the channel to get the viewers, because from what I can see the channel in general sucks until 8pm, HBO stuff aside, I wouldn't bother with it at all.
It's not just *daytime* programming, it's evening programming too.
Anyway, wonder what channels are actually testing, would be cool to get some proper confirmation from testers what they're seeing on their boxes, as personally as I said earlier, I think now that Smallworld Cable have added some other foreign news channels, Virgin will follow suit, so it wouldn't surprise me if 3 of those test streams are CCTV news, Al Jazeera and the other one I mentioned, along with the CBS channels, I doubt they're testing the F1 channel at this stage, we still don't have confirmation they will even carry the channel.
