To be honest it wouldn't matter which way they did it, as which ever way it would be unfair to a set of people

Random is probably the only way to make is fair as possible for those that pre registered

Re: TiVo

Can Tivo record saved programs to a DVD recorder in the same way as you can with a V+ box?

Thanks,

Andy

Do you have a source for this?

I'd be interested to know this, although I don't use that functionality that often.

It's been reported on the TIVO forums that both the scart and HDMI output at the same time, so I guess you could always do it by watching the programme (assuming you use HDMI for your TV connection).

I hope the scart is RGB capable instead of the composite output on the VCR socket on the V+

Thanks.

Unless taking the new VIP TIVO pack includes something like free install of TIVO, then would already having the TIVO make a difference to going to the VIP TIVO pack?

Maybe this is the reason for the delay to releasing TIVO to non S1 customers --- all pricing options need to be anounced, so people know all the options available? Only new customer prices have been officially anounced as far as I'm aware.

No, you'd have to use normal playback if you wanted to copy to DVD.

Random is probably the only way to make is fair as possible for those that pre registered
The problem is the random is 'random out of the total list' not 'random out of those who haven't been called yet'.

So I hear that someone was called today twice within one hour, despite having bought Tivo on the first call (and some getting 3-4 calls over a couple of days).. and others (including me) not called at all.

That's a horrible way to do it from a resource point of view, as your limited number of people who are making the calls are going to be spending an increasing amount of time making wasted phone calls (as number of people not called decreases, the chances of the random number generator picking someone not called decreases also).

You could also improve the process by pre-checking whether the calleee was in a VM area (again, reports of people who can't get virgin getting 2-3 calls).

Isn't that the same way you'd do it from a V+ box or have I missed something all this time?

They should not be getting multiple calls as the will be notes on the account so the agents are not doing their jobs correctly if that has happened.

No, on a V+ box there is a function where you can record a programme to a DVD disc and use the V+ box as normal at the same time.

V+ Extras > Copy to VCR/DVD.
