Liberty Global Renews/Expands TiVo deal
TiVo today announced that Liberty Global has renewed its existing product agreements and signed a multi-year extension to their intellectual property (IP) license.
This extension provides Liberty Global with expanded access to TiVo’s patent portfolios and covers all Liberty Global subsidiaries.

Maybe this includes access to voice recognition, which has just been introduced on new Tivos produced in the US.

Not any time soon, I imagine. Virgin Media's CEO said that Liberty is “not religious” about Horizon, that if TiVo works here, then they’ll maintain it.
It's not as if Liberty Global actually own the Horizon middleware and user interface (it's licensed from NDS), so there's little or no cost saving to be made but there will be major disruption to services if they do switch. Red button, apps, certain carriage deals with Sky, multi-room streaming etc. are tied to the TiVo platform.
In 2015 Virgin extended its deal with TiVo to at least 2020 with TiVo remaining the "exclusive provider" of middleware and user interface software for Virgin's next generation set top boxes. As part of the deal, Virgin committed itself to "the development of next-generation solutions from TiVo."

Actually, I am very happy to hear that news, I was unaware that LG had reviewed their decision in respect of the UK.
From what I have heard, migration to Horizon would have been a retrograde step.

As I understand it the Horizon 4 box will be available in the UK end of 2018/early 2019.

So does this mean another new box to replace the V6?

Can't say I've heard of the Horizon 4 box, but the article being linked to is a year old.

Re: Liberty Global Renews/Expands TiVo deal
It's the same box hardware, but running different software. If you've ever seen a V6 box reboot, it shows a "Welcome" screen in many languages. That's because the same hardware is intended for use across Europe.

So does the latest Horizon box have the same number of tuners as the V6 and does it have 1 or 2TB capability?
