Its disgusting whatever provider puts it up as line rental rises seems to be a easy way to make a lot of dosh at the customers expense..

Re: Sky to increase line rental December 2014
A lot of people think that it's sort of compulsory to have a 'house phone' in the way of it's the norm for a house to contain a 'house phone' to make it a home.
it's not. you have a mobile phone now.
do you make calls from your 'house phone' to justify having one. or can you, or do you use your mobile phone instead?
look at it as 'house phones' are old technology. (a big oversized phone on a wire) and you just haven't got around to getting rid of it when the mobile phones came out.

I changed my provider from BT to plusnet and paid about £3 or so less per month on my rental (less again with a line rental saver). Not every provider charges the same for rental.

Don't know if you're on any sort of benefit/income support but there is something called BT Basic if you hadn't seen it? £5.10 a month line rental.

How do you propose the ~52% of the country that don't have access to VM use the Internet when their fixed-line options involve using a phone line to carry the signal Gary?
Do we all start using mobile broadband instead? That should last perhaps a week per month at most at average usage levels.
