They are all (at the moment) too expensive though.

I haven't got my Pi yet, I'm still waiting to be able to order it.
I put an old 4GB SD into my lappy and downloaded "win32diskimager-binary" & "debian6-19-04-2012" via the Pi site, ran the disk image file, selected debian.
A few minutes later the process finished and windows reports the SD as unformatted, so now the long wait.

Windows should not report the SD card as unformatted.
There should be a small (70mb)ish partition on it.

I just put it back in and theres 70mb, with 24 being used by some files.
How are you powering you Pi?
I have a adapter that plugs into the mains for powering USB devices its output says "5.0VDC/1000mA" would that be able to power it or would I need something else?

He's using a Blackberry micro USB mains charger plug (iirc) as the PC USB to micro USB cable wouldn't do the job.....

Excellent I just didn't want you to be dissapointed when you plug it in 
I am using Natalies old Blackberry charger. (Which is 750mAh) so yours should be ok.
edit - another thought, if you're going to plug anything other than a keyboard / mouse in best get a powered usb hub too.

It is text but once you login at the prompt (pi then raspberry) just type startx press enter and you'll get the GUI up.

I'm definitely getting there now...
Running chrome browser, I've got open office running just fine too
So what with the cost of the unit, SD card, keyboard, mouse and charger I'v e got my really portable accessible PC that I can take with me to a job.
No more employers telling me an accessible PC is the best part of £9,000
I just wish I had a practical bone in my body so I could make a box for it
