Re: Should Virgin Media and Cable & Wireless Worldwide merge?
Ok to end this argument, if you want Cable and Wireless in your home, try Demon internet which now runs over the Cable and Wireless LLU network and is a division of Cable and Wireless Worldwide, £15 per month for 50GB allowance and around 13mb speed

If they did merge with C&W Worldwide, Demon Internet would be much better!

It is already part of Cable and Wireless Worldwide, Thus and Demon have always had a reputation for high levels of performance and service

If they became part of Virgin Media, they would offer faster Internet

Re: Should Virgin Media and Cable & Wireless Worldwide merge?
Not necessarily, Virgin Media National is a similar product to Demon, they are ADSL and run down a BT line or LLU network.
To make Demon or Virgin Media National faster, fibre is needed just like Virgin Media Cable Broadband and BT Infinity.

Of course it will, at the moment Thus,Your Communications and Demon are wholly owned by Cable and Wireless Worldwide.
The Cable and Wireless LLU network was used by Tiscali's former Bulldog Broadband customers, but not sure if they still do, now that it is part of TalkTalk as i'm sure they have there own.
I did hear a few years back that Virgin Media was to use it for Broadband and IPTV services, but the IPTV idea never materialised and was forgotten about, instead Virgin Media are focusing on expanding its network by other means like the Fujitsu scheme.

If VM did merge with C&W worldwide, maybe they could then launch their IPTV service, since they would them control the C&W LLU network!

But they have found alternative way to do it with the fujitsu scheme and the areas which already have cable, just extend its cable network to those missed-out streets.
The roll out of IPTV is expensive and does not provide the customer with much choice of channel because the bandwith is limited, that is the reason why Homechoice now TalkTalk TV hasn't expanded outside London much.
And as for Westminster, there isn't much choices because of the conservation rules and costs which is why Virgin Media pulled out of the Westminster area and due to BT of whom Virgin Media was leasing the Cable network from was not co-operating very much either.
