3 Dongle Not Working

A colleague at work has recently bought an HP laptop and has a 3 internet dongle.

When she uses the laptop anywhere outside her house, she is able to surf the net via the dongle. However at home the internet doesnt work. She cannot access any websites through the same browsers she'd use elsewhere. At home she gets 3 to 5 bars (out of 5) on the dongle signal strength, and the dongle has worked on other laptops in her home in the past.

Would anyone be able to advise on what could be happening. My queries include:

1) Why would the internet work in different locations? I thought it might be signal strength but she gets signal at home.

2) She can ping servers through dos. so why wont the browser load.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 3 Dongle Not Working

I know this might sound daft Saaf but ask her if she has any wireless phone systems in the house. Had a Dell laptop the other week that wouldn`t connect when one of the wireless phones was nearby.

Probably nothing to do with that though judging by what i read here http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/3...-broadband.htm

There`s a bit where you can put your postcode in.

Maybe it`s connected enough to ping but as soon as anything substantial is asked for it borks!

Re: 3 Dongle Not Working

I would suggest if possible to try the same dongle in another laptop in her home...

The only other thing is that the Cell she's using at home is too congested to allow a decent enough connection (even if the signal is good).
