Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell tests positive for banned substance
Is he the first North American since Ben Johnson to do so?
Quote:
American sprinter Tyson Gay has tested positive for a banned substance and has pulled out of next month's World Championships.
Gay, the joint-second fastest man over 100m, said he was notified by the US Anti-Doping Agency on Friday that his A sample from an out-of-competition test in May had returned a positive.
|
Quote:
"I don't have a sabotage story... I basically put my trust in someone and was let down," said Gay, 30.
"I made a mistake. I am pulling out of Monaco (this week's Diamond League meeting) and the World Championships."
Gay said he could not divulge the substance or how the positive test occured, adding: "I know exactly what went on, but I can't discuss it right now.
"I hope I am able to run again, but I will take whatever punishment I get like a man."

There is no excuse for cheating and both should be banned for life in my humble opinion.

How said they were cheating?
A few years ago there was an athelete who used Vicks Nasal inhaler which was approved as OK, but he was in another country and need one.
Unfortunately the formula was different and had a banned ingrediant.
Mistakes can easily happen

Scots skier Alain Baxter was hailed as a hero when he returned form the Winter Olympics in 2002.
Baxter became the first British male to win a medal in Alpine skiing when he brought home the Bronze at the games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
However, a few days after his triumphant return, Baxter was notified that he had failed a drugs test.
The IOC stripped Baxter of his medal as he was found to have banned substances in his system, the result of using a Vick’s nasal spray bought in the US that the skier claimed he did not know contained the offending material.

But the fact remains Hom3r that there are rules as in every sport and they have to be abided too and all sportsmen and their advisers know this.
