a colleague of mine was in a motorcycle accident, they thought they may have to amuptate his leg, but the clever doctors/surgeons here in England have got the bones to grow together and become one again, by stretching the 2 separate pieces over time, in a frame round his leg.
admitedly, it's not a head, but still amazing stuff

A 12-year-old boy whose skull was torn from his spine in a horrific crash was yesterday sent home from hospital after making a remarkable recovery.
I wonder what Drs in this country would think of this.
We are about twenty years behind in medical science to deal with this
This report is describing something that is impossible at this time. I'm perplexed as to why they would be saying this
edit: unless his spinal cord wasn't severed, just his spinal ligaments ....
