VM adding their own adverts on channels
iv noticed lately that VM have been adding their own adverts on channels mainly pushing VOD services. like on monday when i was watching Air Crash Investigation on National Geographic the ending credits had barely begun & they added some VOD ads, iv also seen it happen on Sci Fi & a few other channels aswell like. its quite annoying & they only ever seem to do it on channels that they dont own/run. also when they insert them they are very poorly timed & the picture quality of these ads is poor.

Re: VM adding their own adverts on channels
I think you'll find it's far more likely they are paying for that ad-space rather than "putting their own adverts in".
The picture quality is one of Aesthetics, but they are supposed to look a little rustic.

They don't. Partly because I am sure the channels would say something about it if they did (the channels may lose revenue if VM do this) and partly because what would be the point of advertising VOD to cable customers anyway? They have it, so unless VM push the premium rate stuff, VM aren't goning to make any more money out of it. It would make more sense to push it on the other platforms (Freeview and Sky) as they may get more customers out of it, and may persuade those on cable to buy more Premium stuff.

Re: VM adding their own adverts on channels
i dont think that they do tho cuz like on Nat Geo on monday they inserted the ads just as the ending credits began & then when the ads ended it suddenly cut into an advert (on Nat Geo) that was 1/2 way threw & the stations logo came back on, where as during the VM ads there was no logo.

Re: VM adding their own adverts on channels
I've always thought they did this but they must have to pay the channel concerned for the space

But they must pay to do it, otherwise the Virgin would be fair game to be sued for loss of revenue.

Re: VM adding their own adverts on channels
It is no doubt part of the carriage agreement that the channels have. Virgin carry the channel and in return the channel allows Virgin to place their own adverts for cable customers

Re: VM adding their own adverts on channels
im not saying that they dont have permission to do it im just saying that they could at least time their ads better instead of just whacking em in.

Re: VM adding their own adverts on channels
I have actually seen this happen on Nickelodeon.
Just as a program was ending, this random ad popped up about Virgin TV (Without the Nickelodion on-screen logo) and then when it finished it cut back into the middle of a normal advert WITH the 'Nick' logo

Re: VM adding their own adverts on channels
This isn't a new thing - I've not noticed it happening recently, but it used to be a frequent (and extremely annoying) occurrence on the old Analogue system.

Re: VM adding their own adverts on channels
I know this is an old post, but I noticed it last night on Nat Geo.
It went to the adverts and a virgin £50 for referring a friend ad came on then the advert played again straight away but halfway through the ad stopped and cut to the middle of a Nescafe advert.
