You shouldn't need to go inside the laptop really. In most cases it's just a case of removing a screw or two and lifting a panel on the underside while taking the obvious precautions when working close to circuit boards.

Mark if you tell us the make + model of your laptop I'm sure we could tell you very shortly if it's possible to get a new internal card and what kind of bother it is to do it.

It's a Zoostorm laptop, no idea on model number unfortunately. Now, I am in two minds about it being my card after all. I've noticed that the drops only happen during the hours of 6 to 10 am and 6 to 11 pm every day. Between those times it works perfectly fine with no dropouts.

But on the other hand, if this USB stick does the trick then it will be worth getting an internal card as a more permanent solution.

Zoostorm are whitebox builders so servicing and upgrading it should be easy peasy.
