Re: Buying someone's unwanted contract phone on Ebay or Gumtree
I have never bought anything from gumtree so I don't know what their buyer protection policy is like but if you wanted a brand new handset (or even second hand) I would get one off ebay and then if it doesn't work or isn't as advertised you can get your money back. I have sold 3 contract handsets on ebay over the years and never had a problem. I have got 100% positive feedback so people know they can trust me. Does gumtree have a similar system you can check?

If you're unable to buy with a credit card, don't do it.

Maybe the phone is still within a contract period ? the seller does not pay the remaining bill so it gets blocked by his provider then the OP has a brick ?

Re: Buying someone's unwanted contract phone on Ebay or Gumtree
Within a contract after so many months the handset becomes the users to keep even when the account gets ceased.
Afaik they do not block the phones IMEI number.

Re: Buying someone's unwanted contract phone on Ebay or Gumtree
i just asked Vodafone the sim get blocked not the phone, if contract not paid for.
you get black listed.
phone gets blocked with insurance or report to police lost or stolen.
i answer my own question.
