Question New Build ~£1000

Hello Everyone !

As in the topic, I'm interested in buying a new gaming PC. I can spend around £1000 including new monitor(BEQN XL2411z).Also I'm looking for PC based on Intel CPU.

I have few components from my old PC which I would like to reuse in my new PC.(HDD 1TB, Power Supply 750w, and CD/DVD ROM)

Thanks in advance !

Jakub

Re: New Build ~£1000

Case? Peripherals? Do you want a faster drive and use the old one as a secondary?

Re: New Build ~£1000

I was thinking about buying new Case - Corsair 350D(or something cheaper) , and also an 250GB SSD with good read/write speeds.

Yes I would like to use my old one as a secondary drive.

I'm not looking to buy OS because I got my own copy of Windows 7

I'm not looking to buy new mouse/keyboard.

I'm open for any suggestions

Re: New Build ~£1000

I would recommend either stretching the budget slightly for a high-end platform that will last a long time (X99) or cutting it slightly to go for mid-range with much better value for money.

High-end:
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB £110
CPU: i7 5820K £320
MB: Any random X99 board around £150
RAM: Crucial 4GBx4 £150
GPU: NVidia GTX 970 £260

Mid-range:
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB £110
CPU: i5 4690K £170
MB: Any old Z97 for around £90
RAM: Corsair 8GB x2 £120
GPU: Nvidia GTX 970 £260 or ATI R9 290 £200

Re: New Build ~£1000

looking at quas's suggestions, you may want to add a CPU cooler, they can be much quieter than the standard retail coolers provided with intel CPUs. But make sure it will fit in the case

A Crucial MX100 SSD may be cheaper than the Samsung for similar performance.

The Nvidia Card will probably be better in the long term than the ATI 290 which will be more power hungry.

Re: New Build ~£1000

This is one I built for a friend earlier this year, specifically for them to be able to play the new Dragon Age game

Yeah, I forgot that. Though without overclocking I find the retail ones are fine.

A Crucial MX100 is cheaper, but also slower in every test. More importantly though, the Crucial also uses flash with the lowest reliability of any available right now while the Samsung uses the highest. Hence the 850 EVO comes with double the rated endurance (despite in reality having much higher) and 66% longer warranty.

The NVidia is a much more efficient card, yes, but the ATI sometimes beats it at higher resolutions, if he intends to upgrade to e.g. 4K or multimonitor in the future. It also scales better in 4K multi-GPU setups, again if he upgrades in future.

Heat aside (which a good case should be able to handle) power consumption becomes largely irrelevant. The difference in power cost if you were to game for 8 hours a day, every day, 365 days a year, would still be on the order of £15-20 per year.
