USB Pen File Corruption
I have a 32gb USB Pen that for some reason corrupted 2 files, a Text file which was 7k which when trying to read would show corrupt text and a video file which was 637mb which wouldn't play.
I did a full format on the pen to see if it would pick up any bad sectors or so on and it now says i have 31.1GB free of 31.2GB.
I performed a Check Disk in DOS prompt and this was the result...

Im just wondering what are these so called files its processed and so on as the drive should be completely empty now.

Re: USB Pen File Corruption
I have unfortunately fallen foul of the con artists who sell large capacity usb drives which turned out to be about a quarter of the stated capacity but have internal compression software to make it look like they are bigger. Windows even reports them to be the stated capacity.
Load on a few compressed files and suddenly the drive is full and the compression software borks the files.

Flash Tester
Fat32 formatter
I recently acquired a 32GB micro sd card for my sansa clip+ and I am having problems with it. Windows appears to write and read it but the clip+ only sees a few of the audio books on it.
I have reformatted it and am presently testing it with H2testw. Hopefully it will check out as OK, if so I will try the RocKbox firmware as reports indicate it is more robust than sansa's default software.
Why is everything so complex

Re: USB Pen File Corruption
There's no reason to buy cheap ones really. branded ones are cheap enough as they are.
32GB can be had for around £7 - £9

Not going to help. Branded ones fail just as much as unbranded ones, you just get to pay more for the privilege.
If you had any sense you would not rely on storage on any single medium, full stop.

Re: USB Pen File Corruption
i don't rely on just one single medium.
I have important files i want not only on my pc but also on external drives or USB Pens depending what it is.
I refuse to backup to cloud especially after the recent news about pictures from celebrities.

Re: USB Pen File Corruption
Good. Then a broken cheap USB stick should make no difference to you.
The "news" about pictures from celebrities is hardly news. It's a bunch of random people being dumb and irresponsible with their security details, you just don't hear about it when it happens to the schoolkid down the road.

Re: USB Pen File Corruption
You would in the local press if they had 'Compromising images' especially if it was a girl.
The parents would try and milk the media for all it would be worth.
