Internet very slow in Leeds

Hi all

Since around 8.30 pm yesterday (27th) internet seems very slow (normally get the full 50 mbps) currently running at around 10% of that (4.6 mbps). The service status cryptically says broadband (adsl) working ok but no mention of cable. It also says there is some "work" going on to improve "the service" but no specific reference to broadband. anyone in Leeds (or anywhere else) experiencing a slow down ?

As an aside I've recently (fortnight ago) upgraded from 20m to 50m with the superhub 2. It's great when working, but i've had a few dropouts in connection which i never had with my old ambit modem. (routing now with linksys e3200 but still had a couple of dropouts).

Re: Internet very slow in Leeds

There was a slow down of service @ 11.00am 26th Aug from 50Mb to 40Mb here in LS13.
Nothing since which is normally running @52-54Mb 24/7.

Re: Internet very slow in Leeds

Hi Raging Bull thanks for info. I'm in LS5 and it's back up to around high 30's mbps today but beginning to wish i'd stayed on my dinosaur 20 meg connection that was totally reliable.

Re: Internet very slow in Leeds

Back down to 4.6 mbps, this is a joke The kids are now using our second broadband connection (Sky adsl) which only gives around 4.5 mbps but they now use all their portable devices on this instead as they reckon it's better, says it all really !!!!!

---------- Post added at 02:12 ---------- Previous post was at 01:40 ----------

Just rebooted shub2 and speeds suddenly back up to 38 Mbps which is the speed i've been experiencing throughout the day and early evening until it slows to a relative crawl anytime between 20.00 and midnight.....I can't fathom this, any ideas anyone ??

---------- Post added at 02:14 ---------- Previous post was at 02:12 ----------

Spoke too soon, within a few minutes it's back down to 4.6 Mbps.

Re: Internet very slow in Leeds

Could you be suffering from too many people using connection at same time.
(Those students get everywhere!)
Using Sam Knows monitoring, checked signals here all o'k. (5min from you)
My married daughter living near top of Broad Lane she o'k too.
What are your signal levels like, and anything reported in log prior to reboot.

Re: Internet very slow in Leeds

This morning at 10 am it was at 4 Mbps (as measured on iphone) but by 11 am it's back up to 46 (as measured wirelessley on W7 64 bit laptop). I think you're right about it being a contention (is that the right word) issue...it's a risk i was worried about when moving from my legacy 20 meg connection and so far it hasn't paid off. I'll just have to work out how to post my signal levels (it's a long time since i've had to look at a modem page)

---------- Post added at 12:11 ---------- Previous post was at 10:59 ----------

This is what i'm seeing presently (speedtest states around 36 Mbps).

Re: Internet very slow in Leeds

You probably need to do the speed tests on a wired connection, as so many things can affect wifi speeds.

Re: Internet very slow in Leeds

Thanks Hugh i have just to rule out wifi weirdeness but the result are broadly similar (got a decent router and network card). There's definitely a trend over the last 4-5 days of large speed reduction antime from 8 pm onwards, even the kids have noticed. 2 weeks ago when i got my shub 2 i was seeing 51 Mbps consistently, now it varies during the day 30-40 (measured in modem and router mode on different devices with different speed tests and also observing download stats), then randomly in the evening it plummets to a consistent 4.6 Mbps +/- 0.1. Having said that it's bucking the trend tonight and i'm still getting 34 Mbps.

I'm a bit to the north of you (Adel), and no problems up here on 152Mb - I would ring faults on 151 if I were you.

Dave: Have you a friendly neighbour who you could speak to?
(Idea is to compare notes on speed both up/down)
My SH1 has indicator lights on right hand edge, uppermost (normal blue) changes to green when problems arise.

Green is when you only have one down and one up channel bonded. It can show blue even if you have very limited service.
