Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released this week on the PS3. This gives us a taster on what the final GT5 will be like. There has been some added bonus content especially for PS3 users in Europe.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Features:
  • Play Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Online!: A first for the franchise, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue supports online racing with up to 16 drivers racing simultaneously on a beautifully rendered race track.
  • Race 71 high-performance and exhaustively detailed cars: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue includes vehicles from Ferrari, Audi, Nissan and Mitsubishi.
  • Race on six stunningly realistic tracks: the Eiger Nordwand, the Daytona International Speedway, the London City Track , the Fuji Speedway, Suzuka and the High Speed Ring - and then race them in alternative layouts.
  • A new physics engine for a Gran Turismo game: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue delivers next-generation vehicle handling. True to the heritage of the Gran Turismo franshise, the physics engine in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue provides unprecedented realism and authentic handling specific to each car.
  • A new in-cockpit view: Provides a unique perspective for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue players and features a customised dashboard for each of the cars in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Real-time gauges and human animations accurately represent the true performance and handling of each vehicle.
  • All-new and improved opponent AI: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue delivers a nail-biting and more strategic racing experience.
  • Access to Gran Turismo TV: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue presents a clearinghouse of great motoring TV (video), programming (both HD and SD – all broadcast quality) online through PlayStation Network.
  • Extend the real driving simulator: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is also compatible with the new DualShock 3 controller, which has vibration functionality.
  • Quick Tune facility: Allows Gran Turismo 5 Prologue players to adjust power, tires, suspension and more!
  • Stunning near-photorealistic next-gen visuals: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue runs in stunning High Definition at 1080p (race: 1080p-60fps, replay: 1080p-30fps).
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Additional Features for Europe:
  • Drift Mode – The player’s drifting technique is measured based on drift angles, racing lines, and speeds within evaluation zones located at various turns on the course.
  • In Depth Car Tuning – Players have the ability to adjust the vehicle’s performance, including power, tyres, suspension and the ability for quick tuning whilst racing.
  • Two-player Split Screen Racing – Allows players to race head-to-head offline.
  • New Race Events – Online racing fans can join in on a new set of scheduled events and time trials.
I can also confirm that players will also be able to play in the winning Ferrari F1 F2007 car.

Some GT5P footage here with the G25 racing wheel in use. Don't try this at home kids (the racing boots and gloves that is).

This is the game which tips the scales in favour of the ps3 over the xbox for me. Saving my pennies and hope to be getting one very soon.

If I could afford it right now. I would buy one of those chairs with the steering wheel and pedals, just for my living room.

Trouble is my wee boy would break it. He's obssesed with cars. He's only 4 and he's going to be upset that there are no Porsche's in the line up. On the other hand he loves Lambo's.

Nice footage Uncle Peter. Is that The Stig? :D:D:D

Also a shame they are not putting the Top Gear track in Prologue.

Just do it you will not regret it.

Don’t forget you get a Blue ray DVD player for the same price.

We need to hold a CF tournament when it comes out.

We will be able to do that when they introduce Private Racing in an update. I hope we don't have to wait that long for it. They are also planning to release Voice Chat at the same time as Private Racing. This will not be included in the game straight away.

I like how Sony though have given Europe more content than the Japanese. :tu: About time Sony gave us Europeans some TLC. :)

It's a shame we've been kept waiting for so long for the full GT5 release but that's the nature of the beast that is Polyphony Digital I guess. They always seem to get more out of the Sony consoles than any other developer though. I'm holding out for the full release before investing in a PS3 tbh. Being able to use the G25 with this game is a massive selling point for sure.

Cerberus 25-03-2008 16:19

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Just been looking at the PS3 UK website and they have set out some details regarding Online play.

Here

I would rather Polyphony take their time in releasing it as it will be a great game. I am also glad that Rockstar did the same for GTA IV. I am hoping though that people who have Prologue will be able to get the final release discounted and/or be able to keep all saved data from Prologue into the main game.

Pre ordered this about 1 week ago for £17.99.

I really want the Logitech G25 wheel, but how do you justify paying £150+ on a 'toy'.

Good man shawty, good man.

Aye the G25 is a bit expensive, there may be alternatives about for a better price, but will it be as good?

I guess it's like paying a lot of money for a high end graphics card if you're a PC gamer. If you play a lot of driving games it really enhances the level of realism and enjoyment and being compatible with bot the PC and PS3 makes it a very attractive purchase if you can convince yourself that it's worth parting with the cash. There are/will be some great games on both platforms which support it: GTR2, GT Legends, Race, LFS, TOCA series etc

Will you download Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, or will you buy the Blu-ray disc? Well, you may want to go to your local retail store and pick up the physical disc version. "Beyond the Apex" is a video documentary that's exclusively available on the Blu-ray disc. This is a behind-the-scenes feature, which talks to various folks involved with, and inspired by, the legendary driving simulation game.

Mate, you're a legend. 3 more days to wait.

Also, can anyone who's ever pre-ordered from Game, confirm that sometimes they deliver the game the day before? I am sure I have read/heard somewhere that it's been known to happen.

Apparently, GT5 Prologue has already hit 1 million pre-orders.

More on the 1 million pre-orders. That makes it Platinum before it's even been released.

Added to the fact that you can get Top Gear content is going to make this game the best game released. (Until GTA IV)

I have just read here that GT5 Prologue could be the platform for a full game with updates constantly being downloaded.

Now considering that a full game retails with a mark up price of £39.99 - £49.99 then I think that the updates will be charged for and not free. If this is the case, then I will be disappointed.

Updates are made to the Playstation store every Thursday according to the UK Playstation 3 forums. You could well see this in the store for download tomorrow or tomorrow midnight. 1.9Gb (estimated), then there is always the chance that VM will STM you or play silly beggars and disconnect you via a fault. :D:D:D

It will be in the PSN store tomorrow when the update is applied but there is extra content on the disc and you will also probably find it cheaper as the PSN store price is meant to be the full price of £24.99 but thats will have to be confirmed tomorrow. Plus I can see slow downloads with people all tryin to get the 1.9GB download at once - server crash ? lol

I cant see it going this way. Possible because the Prologue is delivered this way but I still think we will see a full release on disc with possible updates ontop of that e.g. Car Pack's etc etc.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Nah, I wouldn't want that to happen. I would love to be able to download car packs, soundtracks, decal sets and little optional extra's.

There is also a rumour that car damage will be added eventually too. Now that would make a change.

I to would'nt like to see it delivered that way. I think it will be a full release on disc with extra download packs like they did with motostorm. I would probably buy some of the packs especially if they released new tracks etc etc.

Yep for reasons stated above. I think as soon as it's released on the PS3 Store, there is going to be one massive surge to download it. Also, a little bonus content is available on the disc. Added to the fact that it's going to be cheaper if you buy it from the store as oppose to downloading it. Even more reasons to buy the disc I'd say! :tu:

Looks like they have sold out everywhere!!!

However you don't get the "Beyond the Apex" video that's on the Blu-ray disc version, but, I'd rather have a leaner, more convenient HDD-based version. At the end of the day, the content that matters is identical.

Its £24.99

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

If you're not bothered about the video then d/l it. I would recommend keeping an eye on the Playstation store later tomorrow. Also try and back it up if you can. £24.99 and 1.9Gb is a hell of a lot to lose should you ever have system issues with your PS3. Another good thing about installing it to HDD is the load times will be quicker as oppose to using the disc. I wonder if the option to install from disc to HDD will be available? :p:

I just like owning the disc of the big games. I always have. Usually this lets me sell it on to if I dont enjoy it but I dont see this hapening with GT5:P. Just like the look of a game on the shelf plus I dont really have the space on my HDD until I upgrade it as its always full with stuff.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

First load up of GT5:Prolouge and you will need to install an update. Some updates fail and this is for a number of reasons. The update required allows you to play online.

More infor here.

When you all get the game, don't download the update at the first prompt, load the game up and then go into "GT:TV" it will then ask you to download it again, the download is more stable in there for some reason.

You can also try the following:

Even if an error occurs during the update, data downloaded up to the error is saved. Repeating the update will complete the download normally.

The update can be resumed as indicated below:

Select News in My Page after starting the game
Exit the game with the PS button, and restart the game.

Hope this will be of some help to those that get their pre-orders tomorrow/today actually (which is me in about 6 hours) or for those getting theirs downloaded tomorrow or on disc Friday.

If anything else develops then I will be sure to post.

By the way, anybody getting theirs tomorrw, maybe we can start a spoiler thread and title it with spoiler mentioned? ;)

Otherwise just keep your posts here without revealing too much for other folk who have to wait a further 24 hours to get it! :tu:

Sorry to hear that mate. :(

I am waiting for mine to be delivered. It was sent Special Delivery Guaranteed by 9am, except it's past 9am just now and I am not happy with Royal Mail. I am like a wean at Christmas. :D

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Mine has just arrived. I got to say I am disappointed............ at why they took so long to release this game. The game is amazing, the grpahics are absolutley awesome and well, what else can I say?

Well done SCEE & Polyphony Digital.

The intro video is very good too, watch it before you start playing.

Now I am not going to create a spoiler thread or post any more detail on here regarding the game play and what's available etc.

What I will say is this. Once you start to load up the game, it asks you to install to the PS3 HDD. Do this (not that you have the option not to) and go and make yourself a cup of tea, because it does take a while. Once it has installed it will ask you to install an update. Decline to install and go straight away to watch the intro video.

Once you're past that it will go into the main menu screen and ask you to go to the Dealership to buy a car. Skip that and go straight into GT:TV and install the update from there. Any updates that are released will carry your credits (and possibly cars) but all other data is reset (replays etc..). Once the update is installed and it will take a while because loads of peeps will be downloading it, go straight into the game and enjoy.

I GUARANTEE you will not be disappointed at all. There have been some differences added from previous version of GT, but I am not going to say anymore.

Looks awesome on my 50" HD TV :tu: :D

Where did you pre-order it from? Did you not receive an email from your supplier stating that the game has been despatched and giving you a tracking number?

-Update-

40 Minutes gone and about 3/4 of the way through downloading the update. Patience is the key here. Remember some other European countries got theirs yesterday on official release and they will be hammering the Sony servers like no tomorrow, so bandwidth is going to be maxed out for a wee while. I think Sony may offer more servers for future updates, following updates to the PSN & Store which are due this afternoon.

I could recommend playing the game and downloading the update maybe in the wee small hours of the morning. Having said that, if GT5:P is released on the store today then the update servers may still be maxed. I guess patience is the key here.

@STONEISLAND - PS Store updates take place every Thrusday so it may be there today, but they may not make the download active until midnight tonight. As soon as I hear anything, I will be sure to post here to let you know.

Updates to the store usually take place on Thursday afternoons between 2-5pm GMT.

I may create a sticky for future reference so CF users can see store updates.

Also UEFA Euro 2008 Demo is available after today's update.

Great idea for a Sticky of what comes out on a weekly basis. MODs can we do this?

I will do it and get a MOD to sticky it if allowed.

-Edit-

Further update: Download of GT5:P Update failed at 90%. The Update servers are being totally hammered. Perseverance is the key here I think. :(

Also, I've read on various forums that the "Beyond The Apex" video which is meant to be on the disc is not actually on it!!!

Some of the events are quite tricky. I would recommend using medium traction control or cmpletely tuning it off on relatively easy courses (Daytona) and using lots of traction control on the slightly difficult courses (Suzuka). Use driving line for the first few races.

Might be wise to start a seperate thread regarding hints & tips? :)

I seen your name pop up on screen to let me know you signed in.

The only other issue I have found regarding this game, is changing the date & time settings within GT5. May be another update will fix this.

Enjoy! :tu:

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Europeans have additional features, than the Japanese/US version:

From my original post:

Drift Mode
– The player’s drifting technique is measured based on drift angles, racing lines, and speeds within evaluation zones located at various turns on the course.

In Depth Car Tuning
– Players have the ability to adjust the vehicle’s performance, including power, tyres, suspension and the ability for quick tuning whilst racing.

Two-player Split Screen Racing
– Allows players to race head-to-head offline.

New Race Events
– Online racing fans can join in on a new set of scheduled events and time trials.

As well as more cars to toy around with! :)

The game is 6GB when installed to the HDD. I was about 98% done on the update on my 5-6 try and the servers went down for maintenence lol just my luck.

As for the game itself its just amazing. I cant think of anything else to say. Its everybit as good as I was expecting infact I would go as far as saying its surpassed my expectations. To think that this is only a taster of the full game is mind blowing. The cars are beautifully rendered and the tracks look superb. Gotta say its hard being away from it . . . . . . ok am off for another game lol

That Honda Integra is brilliant for the Class C races. I went with the Mazda Atenza first which was not bad and got me through the first races well but once I picked up the Honda everything just got alot easier. I went for looks at first lol There both nice looking cars to. Gotta save up for the Audi R8 or a Austin-Martin DB9 ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR ! lol Beautiful Cars.

Cerberus 27-03-2008 18:57

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Yeah I got the Atenza first, good cheap we car that leaves you with plenty of credits left over. Bought a Swift SSport, Suzuki Cappucino and I am now doing a few races to get the Alfa T1. Only need to finish 2 more races on Class C then I can move on. :tu:

Need that Cappucino to move it's backside and beat a lap time of 1m 39secs to win Gold. Grabbed Silver with it, but it understeers like a don't know what! :p:

After the Alfa, I am getting the Integra.

I got the Update now finally.

Cerberus Did you sort out the time problem with it ? If not this is what I did might help you or anyone else stuck with it.

The games goes off your system time setting so go to your time setting's and just click update via internet and it will update your time. You should turn your daylight saving to standard to first. Mine works fine now since doing that.

Hope it made sense lol.

Mine resumed. If the update fails then quit the game go back to your main PS3 XMB then start the game again. Go back into GT:TV and it should resume from where it left off. GT5:P servers are currently offline for further updates and maintenance.

TBH & IMO it's more than just a demo. This game has been delayed for over a year and further still with the final release due next year. This is one of the games that was announced when the PS3 arrived on these shores. GT5:P as well as GTA IV were the 2 most eagerly awaited games on the PS3, due to the fact that it will make the most of what the PS3 has to offer. They weren't wrong! :tu:

Mine didnt however after getting to 90+% it failed. After the server came back on and I did it again it was almost instant so my guess is it does resume but does not tell you its resumming. Hope that helped.

Icestar - That tip did the trick. The time settings on my PS3 were way off. Date was fine though.

Cheers for that, it did cross my mind to check, but I thought it was more to do with GT5 more than anything else. I also automatically assumed my PS3's time would be sound as, obviously not.

There will be an official announcement tomorrow by SCEE regarding the delayed download of GT5:P from the Playstation store. I would recommend buying it from a retailer.

I haven't tried it online yet. Been trying to build up credits to get a decent car to race online, so I couldn't possibly comment. I may have a wee shot later. Don't know about any other PS3 users on here, if they've played it online.

I just had two races online. Quite funny really. You can clip your opponents car and watch them spin out of control, whilst you're busy laughing overtaking/beating the rest of the field.

No lag that I have noticed. It's fun and fast paced. A joy to play online and you win credits, which tbh I didn't expect.

Off to do some more racing and get me a Ford GT. :D

Only 30,000 credits off getting one.

Lotus Elise rocks too. :tu:
