Arf!

Former MPs David Chaytor, Elliot Morley and Eric Illsley have been told to repay thousands of pounds in legal costs after their convictions for fraudulently claiming expenses.

Morley has been asked to repay the largest amount, £56,181 in total. Chaytor has been asked to repay £46,212 while Illsley faces a claim for £23,087.

They should repay it, with interest added from the time they STOLE it.

Bit of a bump, but here we go....

BBC
Quote:

Former Luton South MP Margaret Moran, who is accused of fiddling her parliamentary expenses, is not fit to stand trial, a court has been told.

Consultant forensic psychiatrist Philip Joseph said that Ms Moran, 56, was suffering from a depressive illness and extreme anxiety and agitation.
Whilst I have every sympathy with those suffering from stress/depression/etc, I am a little suspicious of this manifestation.

Perhaps if she hadn't fiddled her expenses (allegedly), she might not be so "stressed"?

Quote:

Dr Joseph told Lewes Crown Court the stress of the proceedings and allegations she was facing made it impossible for her to participate in court proceedings.
Must try that one next time I am up in court.....

Wonder if this depressive illness will prove as long term and debilitating as Ernest Saunders' dementia....

The money was just resting in his account...

Anyway its amazing how many undiagnosed illnesses are diagnosed by defense lawyers during the preparation of a defence or appeal.

Hmmm,.... Maybe that's how he's funded all that Apple bling...... :erm: :D

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them now indulge in a little selective medical research so they can highlight a nice nebulous mitigating condition before their clients even realise they have one.

Just when you think there isn't any good news reported any more.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-21119031

Quote:

The police are to reopen their investigation into claims of expenses fraud against ex-MP Denis MacShane.

Mr MacShane quit as MP for Rotherham last year after admitting using fake receipts to wrongly claim more than £7,000 of parliamentary expenses.
Shouldn't be too difficult a case to prosecute. He's admitted it in writing to the House of Commons and they have agreed the letters where he admits it are not covered by parliamentary privilege.

Yup. I'll bet he is quickly thinking what previously undiagnosed ailment he can use to try and get off with it.
