Hi,

I have been working on a template for my new site and have come up with the below. Is it ok?

Yes it is basic, but I haven't seen a template I like at the moment, but still looking.

Just check on my other PC Res 1024x768 and I agree the login and search boxes are to big, will move it around a bit. It doesn't look to overally to big on my main pc, but that has a Res of 1920x1080

I am going to try and make the login box/members menu smaller and putting the search under it. So it is all in a height of around 150px

Re: Is this template design ok?

Here it is with the search in the login box.
The header and login is now the new width, so it fits in 1024 Res.

Re: Is this template design ok?

That looks better.

But I would try and keep the login box even smaller with then an advanced button if users want to expand on their search criteria. This would then take them to a bigger page with more search options.

Re: Is this template design ok?

Be sure to make it dynamically resize or you'll have some people on higher resolution screens where it'll just be a tiny little web page in the centre of the screen with a huge border either side; or people on low resolution who will have to scroll around; otherwise it looks fine.

Re: Is this template design ok?

Resizing depends on the website.. Some websites look rubbish when resized, others you can resize at will.. Not sure what you're using as a base for the CMS but you might find that they have templates with a mobile option..

I am going to set the width at 1000px so it fits on 1024 Res. upwards.
I may look at resizing depending on Res. setting on the next template.

Yes it is basic, I am wanting quick loading times, so not looking for a heavy graphic template, which I could find.

I am still looking for a paid template, but may keep the header, which has a height of 150px, the reason for that, is the logo I am getting made next month will be around that size. If I can get the logo to a 100px it may all change.

Re: Is this template design ok?

I have just put together another one from a template I found.
What do you think to this one.

The logo and login panel would need to be resized to fit in the white, and not overlap into the grey.

Re: Is this template design ok?

Screenshot above updated.

Just made a change to the sidebar/content area, to have to separate light grey areas.
Which I think looks better.

Re: Is this template design ok?

Screenshot 2 posts up has been updated and added to this post.

Have resized logo to 135px to be in the white
Have remade the login/search background image to 130px

Need to re-do the login/search box to fit etc...

What do you think to it?

Re: Is this template design ok?

Do you have to have all that search criteria or could you have a simpler login and then an advanced search once logged in?

I'd also make the top logo fit in size with the left navigation sidebar.
