Virgin Apprentices Graduate

# 30 January 2013, 12:13 by cfteam

Virgin Media have employed some 250 graduates from their latest apprenticeship intake. This is a five fold increase from the scheme that started in 2008. Over 700 have been recruited since inception. Virgin Media will be selecting their next intake this Summer.

The apprentice scheme provides 12 months of training with the telecommunications industry. It enables people to earn while they learn and achieve the nationally recognised NVQ in Communication Technology. The qualification offers a mix of both technical and customer engagement skills with apprentices learning how to install and service Virgin Media’s broadband, phones and TV systems.

Virgin Media see the apprenticeship scheme as a good way of investing in the future of their business whilst helping to people to develop a career. Indeed the graduates are encouraged to look towards lofty heights in the industry. Indeed Paul Buttery, Virgin Media’s chief customer, technology and networks officer, started his career as a telecoms apprentice and said:

Apprenticeships offer enthusiastic young workers a superb insight into our business and are an excellent gateway to stimulating and prosperous carriers. The fact that many people like myself started as apprentices in the telecommunications industry shows the importance of these schemes and just how far our graduates can go.
