Virgin Media hires the A-Team to help drive TiVo installations

# 30 August 2011, 09:22 by Chris T

Virgin Media has turned to iconic 1980s American TV to help it sell its TiVo-powered digital TV service.

The escapades of Bo and Luke Duke – a.k.a. The Dukes of Hazzard – and those soldiers of fortune known as the A-Team, have been recruited to boost excitement around the product, and, thereby, generate sales.

But VM hasn’t bought the re-run rights to the shows. Nor has it recruited any of the stars to front an ad campaign. Instead, it has begun painting up its fleet of installers’ vans to look like B.A. Baracus’ famous black GMC Vandura, or the Duke boys’ orange Dodge Charger.

A spokesman explained: “We’ve already been getting a fantastic response from customers receiving TiVo, but now we’ll create an impact just driving up the road.”

But don’t expect to see Virgin Media installers screaming through the streets pursued by the local sheriff or hooting Dixie on their horns.

That would be just a little more than the law would allow.
